The campaign to preserve half the Earth’s surface is being criticized for failing to take account of global inequality and human needs. But such protection is essential for creating a world that can improve the lives of the poor and disadvantaged. e360.yale.edu/features/prote…

I read this and wonder why Biden is not saying “ok, that’s cool, but if you don’t vote for this, you can bet that I will be bringing an aggressive Sec 111(b) rule for both new CCGT and coal. And an existing source rule that is conservative and defensible. nytimes.com/2021/10/15/clima…

In a few hours, @JoeBiden will issue an executive order that obliterates much of Trump’s deregulatory climate agenda. It is the first step toward restoring protections for national monuments and endangered species and re-entering Paris climate agreement. eenews.net/stories/106372295…

The DC Circuit just struck down the Trump administration’s Affordable Clean Energy Rule which had replaced the Obama era Clean Power Plan for power plant C02: EPA “failed to rely on its own judgment and expertise, and instead based its decision on an erroneous view of the law.”

It seems increasingly likely that Biden will win the presidential election but that democrats will not secure a majority in the senate. That means action on climate and energy will almost certainly have to proceed via regulation using existing authority. A thread...

Every single serious analysis I read of this election said that it would be long and drawn out, and that Trump would try to steal the election by trying to discount late-arriving Biden votes. And now that it's happening...everyone seems shocked.

Trump sacked the @NOAA chief scientist & separately created a new senior post for a climate denier. This sort of story goes almost unnoticed these days. It mustn't. Kudos to @LFFriedman & @cflav, and to @nytimes for running it on A1 above the fold. nyti.ms/3jzm3KK

Trump gleefully seized on Biden's statement in the final debate that he'd transition away from fossil fuels over time to renewable energy, thinking it a political vulnerability for Biden. Voters: not so much. Even 41% of Republicans in this poll say they favor a transition. ⤵️
Most voters favor phasing out oil and transitioning to more renewable energy
