Really pleased to see our study with Luca Rossi, @CerritelliF @dibbygibby published on an important aspect of persistent pain and persistent physical symptoms—an important building block for the active inference framework in clinical practice. frontiersin.org/journals/neu…

Patients often want 3 things when they come to see you... 1️⃣ to LISTEN to their issues and problems! 2️⃣ to EXPLAIN what you think is the cause of these! 3️⃣ a PLAN to help these issues and problems get better! It can be difficult but it’s not impossible! ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1921…

A short piece I wrote for those with #neckpain HT to all the superb researchers whose work is cited @kieranosull @PeteOSullivanPT and many many others 🙏 Hoping it will be a useful clinical resource to start conversations about posture with neck pain sufferers & colleagues 👍

Anyone aware of a systematic review of predictors of developing chronic dizziness after acute symptoms? Good studies out there, but unable to find any specific systematic reviews on the topic. Thanks for any leads!

I have been working with a male in his 80s with lower back and leg pain - improving, but he was still concerned about “not knowing the cause” of his pain. He came in somewhat excited that he had an EMG study and now at least knows the cause - a “pinched lumbar nerve.”

He was confident the treatment would work. He just wanted to make sure the exercises were still safe to do in light of this information. I suspended my pain science narratives and basically met him where he was. I assured him the exercises were still safe & beneficial.

I’m humbled to learn that while I may not agree with another narrative, it can still be helpful for patients who seek answers and maybe sometimes it’s best to just roll with it.

I’ve worked with “different populations” over the yrs &while the ‘what’ may change, the ‘why’ & ‘how’ seem consistent as do pt expectations /concerns. Would it be useful (possible) to use global outcome measures & pool for effect sizes of therapy in general? A Meta-Meta analysis?
Surprised that #biopsychosocial model is still resisted by some PTs. Was told "psychologists should be addressing psychosocial issues." So fear of reinjury, falling, etc needs to be referred out? Can anyone suggest resources that clarify the relative roles of PT / Psychologist?

This was published four years before I began training as a physio. Why am I just now reading this? A must read for any health professional. Fibromyalgia is merely an example. Does postconcussive syndrome need this kind of perspective today? ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/89…
