Great to speak with the great Sylvie Legere, founder and chair of @thepolicycircle about the work Utah has done to protect children from the harms of social media
Autoplay. Infinite scroll. Push notifications. How do we protect children online while respecting free speech? At The Policy Circle’s recent Washington, D.C., event, @MargaretBusse explored why that question matters for social media and AI. Watch her take.

Thank you, Utah. For the fourth year in a row, U.S. News & World Report has named Utah the best state in the nation. And the credit belongs to you. I had the pleasure of talking with @usnews about the people behind that ranking. Utahns raise families, start businesses, and give generously of their time. To everyone who puts time, work, and care into this state: thank you.

Utah's unemployment rate remained below the national average in September, coming in at 3.5% compared to 4.2% nationally. We're grateful for the workers, employers and entrepreneurs who continue to build opportunity across our state.
Year-over-year job growth is estimated at 1.4% across the past 12 months and unemployment held at 3.5%. The September national unemployment rate is estimated at 4.2%, up a tenth of a percentage point from its level in August. #UTEcon #UTBiz #UTPol

Exactly
Maybe it’s marriage that they’re looking for? Crazy idea: save sex for marriage and, experts agree, the benefits multiply.

Another rollout of an action of @GovCox's Prohuman AI initiative, this one on the "Effective State Government" pillar. The purpose of this executive order is to: 1) Promote responsible AI use within government by utilizing Utah's Pro-Human AI Initiative principles to evaluate AI tools; 2) Designate procedures for the Department of Government Operations to lead the state in the use of AI-driven process improvements, choosing tools that adhere to Pro-Human AI principles; 3) Invest in the state workforce by providing training and upskilling opportunities that equip employees to grow alongside AI, prioritizing the development of state employees; 4) Provide a framework for agencies to improve services through the deployment of citizen-facing tools, while establishing guardrails and technical safeguards to protect state data; and 5) Establish agency responsibilities to adhere to Pro-Human AI principles, maintain transparency, complete AI literacy training, and evaluate opportunities to responsibly optimize processes using AI technology. Once again, Utah leads out in establishing a forward-thinking and balanced approach to AI in state government. Marvin Dodge @JeffersonMoss #utahleads #utahtech #stategovernment #effectivegovernment
AI is a generational opportunity to make government work better for the people we serve: faster services and less time spent navigating bureaucracy. But technology should always serve people, not the other way around. Today I signed an executive order establishing Utah’s Pro-Human approach to AI in state government. We’re embracing innovation while protecting privacy and investing in our workforce. The choice between innovation and safety is a false one. Utah will lead on both.

#ICYMI Very proud moment Monday when we announced our new Prohuman AI Initiative pillar: Healthcare. We have been working hard on a framework for expanding healthcare access and lowering costs through utilizing AI in healthcare in safe and innovative ways through our regulatory sandbox program within our Office of AI Policy (OAIP). We are incredibly grateful for the leadership of Dr. Zachary Boyd, OAIP director and his team, along with the teams at @Intermountain and @UofUHealth led by their talented and visionary leaders Rob Allen and Dr. Bob Carter MD PhD. We are also grateful for the partnership of many experts from across the country who are part of our external advisory network and our third party evaluators. Finally, we're grateful for the support and leadership of key legislators Senator Kirk Cullimore and Rep David Shallenberger in this endeavor. #Utahleads #utahtech #healthcareAI
Utah & the Pro-Human AI Taskforce announced the addition of a new Healthcare pillar to the Pro-Human AI Initiative and welcomed new Taskforce member Tracy Gruber, Commissioner of @UtahDHHS, expanding our regulatory sandbox to ensure safety in healthcare AI. @BusinessUtah 1/4

Human-guided AI is a core value of Utah's Prohuman AI Initiative and that means human-controlled AI. Recently, we've seen rogue AI agentic swarms escape experiments at the leading frontier AI labs. These incidents illustrate the labs may have developed AI capabilities that are growing faster than controllability. Nobody, and no country--including China--wants uncontrollable AI. In this interview with @hollyonthehill and @GregSkordas at @kslnewsradio Inside Sources, I go into more depth about @GovCox’s call to Congress and the heads of frontier AI lab companies to establish more transparency and accountability standards in AI bleeding edge development so controllability can better keep pace with capabilities. These recommendations include: 1. Mandatory reporting of serious safety incidents 2. Protection for employees and independent evaluators raising credible safety concerns 3. Independent evaluation of the most capable systems throughout the development process 4. Blocking the sale of powerful AI chips and other enabling infrastructure to China. #prohumanAI #utahleads youtu.be/1CHjhFYm2FE

Americans deserve representation in Congress that is not only well-informed on cutting-edge AI development, but also has the wherewithal to cross the aisle and overcome political pressures to address the concerns these technologies pose. We need public hearings now.

We worked closely with @GovCox team at the end of last year to support Utah business adoption of AI. They were very bullish on the potential, and forward-leaning on relaxing regulatory burdens. This is no doomer / liberal bs. It is what real local concern looks like
America should lead the world in developing artificial intelligence, and that leadership must keep people firmly in control. I’m calling on Congress to establish a consistent national framework for the development of frontier AI. It should require serious safety incidents to be reported, protect those who raise credible concerns, ensure independent evaluation of the most capable models and prevent powerful AI chips and enabling infrastructure from being sold to China. We can build the world’s most advanced AI here in America while ensuring it remains firmly in service of humanity.

Gov Cox has done more than any governor in the history of the state to empower and appoint women to positions of leadership. He’s always been intentional about this, even when it’s not been popular with our party. It’s wrong to suggest that he’s suddenly trying to punish them.

.@govcox has appointed more women to his cabinet and set of senior advisors than any Utah governor in history. I'm one of them. As anyone that knows me can attest, I have a very high radar for misogyny. Have I experienced misogyny from time to time from various folks during my tenure? Yes. But from my boss Governor Cox? Never, not an ounce. @nytimes you got this wrong. This is a story about politics, not gender.
In an attempt to punish Mormon women successfully organizing to protect their rights and democracy, Gov Spencer Cox and Utah’s Republican lawmakers expanded the state Supreme Court by two seats (choosing two new male justices), and then created a new “constitutional court” to hear select lawsuits regarding gerrymandering and abortion. nytimes.com/2026/09/13/us/po…

Legal disagreements between Utah and the federal government should be resolved in court. It is wrong for the DOJ to investigate or threaten the lieutenant governor for carrying out her responsibilities under Utah law.

We're publishing our most detailed threat intelligence report to date. It covers how people tried to misuse Claude—for cyberattacks, influence operations, surveillance, biology, and building weapons—and how we found and stopped them. We disrupted every operation in the report, and used the lessons from them to strengthen our safeguards. Where appropriate, we also shared what we found with authorities and other AI companies. These cases are not typical: we’re highlighting some of the most sophisticated misuse we’ve seen. But they’re especially important to discuss, because they show us where AI misuse is headed, where our safeguards work, and where they need to improve. We’re publishing this report so others can spot the same activity on their own platforms, and so we can give the public a clearer view of how emerging threats develop. We're in a very important moment for AI right now--who knows we're we'll be in a couple of months-but no matter what, this will be an important conversation.
Introducing Takeoff, a first-of-its-kind conference on governing ourselves in the age of artificial intelligence. We’re bringing together a small group of public servants, AI researchers, and other leading voices in Washington, D.C., November 13–15, 2026.
