🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Chemmani archaeologist’s report contradicted by its own evidence
Tamil Guardian has obtained the interim report on the Chemmani mass grave. It says the site more closely resembles “formal burial practices” than a clandestine grave, and raises the possibility of an epidemic or natural disaster. It does not say how almost 600 people came to be buried there.
It holds up Skeleton 25 as a “relatively formal burial” without noting that the remains are of a girl aged four to five, found with a school bag and a toy. It presents a seated skeleton labelled 227 as being in a “meditation posture”. That skeleton was reported in September 2025 to have been found with its hands bound and its skull fractured.
The report says skull orientation shows no uniform pattern, while its own chart shows 72% facing north-west. In September 2025, Sri Lanka’s Human Rights Commission found a “reasonable likelihood” that the burials were the result of extrajudicial killings.

C. Vithuran examines the continued deep disillusionment of Eelam Tamils with Sri Lanka's own political process, where North-East voter turnout keeps declining and Tamil votes never translate into meaningful representation.

NEW: Martial arts have enabled Tamils to forge dignity, discipline, and political discipline across generations. For The North-Eastern, Ambihai Akilan, traces this history from anti-colonial struggles, to the Eelam Tamil liberation movement and the contemporary diaspora.

🚨 Sri Lankan police question parents of Tamil child who asked for Chemmani justice
A boy at a preschool sports day in Vadamarachchi East dressed as a child buried at Chemmani, carrying a placard that read: “many years ago, while I was drinking milk at my mother’s breast, they buried me. Will I get justice?”
After footage of the costume spread on social media, Sri Lankan police at Maruthankerny station called in the boy’s parents and his preschool teacher for questioning.

#SriLanka's proposed new NGO legislation imposes an obligation on NGOs to “align with the policies of the government” and “not engage in any activity that adversely affects the sovereignty or territorial integrity of Sri Lanka or violates the provisions of the Constitution”.
NGOs cannot “induce or cause any public disorder which affects the safety and interests of the general public”.
They must not engage in “any advocacy to support political ideologies using funds and resources of the non-governmental organisation during a period of pre-election or, unless it is an object of such non-governmental organisation”.
NGOs must also use their funds “only for the purposes it was registered” and notify the Competent Authority “prior to initiation of any crowdfunding activity”.

UN Spl Rapp on Human Rights & Counter Terrorism & other mandate holders have raised concerns about draft law to curtail civic activity with ref to potential misuse of FATF standards to justify restrictions on civic space. They point out draft is inconsistent with #FATF standards.
I join UN experts in raising concern that Sri Lanka's NGO Bill is inconsistent with the right to freedom of association and could restrict human rights defenders, civil society and civic space spcommreports.ohchr.org/TMRe…
“I suspect there is more to the lost art of the phone call in certain societies than just the pressures of modernity. In contemporary life, there are so many ways to feel like you are in touch and in conversation when you are not. So many ways to feel part of some slipstream of humanity, when in fact we are scrolling, meme-ing, seeing news from friends and strangers alike via story updates, while not exchanging anything meaningful or even uttering a single word. Those in exile are acutely aware of alienation, and reach out to remedy it. But for those in their home countries, loneliness still lurks in ways harder to recognise. A phone call is honestly less time consuming and more replenishing than anything else we use our devices for.”

The Indian state have oppressed minorities before but Indian Tamils aren't part of that. To even compare Indian Tamils to what Eelam Tamils have gone through is very disrespectful to Eelam Tamils
This is why the genocide argument is so important. India has not committed genocide against Tamils in Tamil Nadu - Sri Lanka commits genocide against Eelam Tamils.

🚨 Navy and police given seats on new fisheries committees across the North-East
Sri Lanka has set up district committees on illegal fishing across 15 fisheries districts, seven of them along the North-East coast, drawing in the defence ministry, the navy, the coast guard and the police. The review was chaired at parliament by fisheries minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar and deputy defence minister Major General Aruna Jayasekara, with the defence secretary and the navy commander attending.
Neither ministry has said what powers the committees hold, who chairs them at district level, or whether fishermen's organisations are represented on them.
Fishermen in the North-East have accused the navy of selective enforcement — moving against local Tamil fishermen while Indian bottom trawlers work northern waters. The navy has arrested Tamil fishermen for illegal fishing off Jaffna, been accused of covertly surveying fishing land at Chundikkulam, and still holds the fishing settlements of Myliddy inside a High Security Zone, where landowners have protested weekly for 23 weeks with no reply.

The statue of Thiyagi Thileepan was forcibly removed from the Thileepan Memorial Square in Nallur, Jaffna, by Jaffna Police early this morning.
The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the memorial site by the Thileepan Commemoration Committee.
The removal took place in the early hours of September 27, just one day after the conclusion of this year’s Thileepan commemorations at the memorial site.
The reasons and legal basis for the police removal have not yet been publicly confirmed.

After yesterday’s large commemoration of Lt Col Thileepan‘s hunger strike death in Jaffna, Sri Lankan police today forcibly removed his recently installed statue from the plinth. Since Thileepan‘s death in 1987 , the Sri Lankan state has repeatedly destroyed memorials erected to honour him, including at this site near Nallur temple.
