I asked Doug Ford to recall the legislature so Ontario can fight back against Donald Trump’s tariffs. He called that “gutter politics.”
Here is my response:
This is great news for five star hotels, but terrible news for taxpayers. Doug Ford can’t help himself from wasting your money.
Stan’s new $22,501 salary bump is going to come out of your tax dollars, and you can’t afford more of this nonsense.

NEW: Former tourism minister Stan Cho, who resigned from Premier Ford's cabinet after facing criticism for spending thousands on Toronto hotel rooms despite living in the city, has been named parliamentary assistant to Education Minister Paul Calandra. #onpoli
It’s time to put ideology aside and step up for workers.
He won’t answer because he knows it’s what needs to be done, but he’s choosing politics over people instead.
Ontario minister of economic development, asked about the idea of nationalizing Stelco, sidesteps the question.
Vic Fedeli says the government’s plan is to “work with all the steel companies” and claims the government’s work has led to a 3% increase in Ontario-made steel.
“We’re achieving the goals we’re headed to.”

Yesterday, Albertans voted overwhelmingly to remain and build a stronger, more united Canada.
I’m deeply grateful to every single Albertan who went to the polls to make their voice heard, to show their love and support for the country we call home. There is no doubt that our economic future and sovereignty is under attack by our closest ally and neighbour. Now more than ever, it's very important that we stand together as a country so we can move forward strong and united.
On behalf of the Ontario NDP, I extend my deepest sympathies to Mac Bain’s family, loved ones, and the residents of North Bay, whom he represented with dedication.
Over the years, our caucus had many important discussions with Mac about strengthening our communities and delivering for the people we represent. May he rest in peace.
On behalf of AMO, I extend my deepest condolences to Mac Bain’s family, friends and colleagues. Mac dedicated decades of his life to municipal government, serving the City of North Bay and advocating for municipalities across Northern Ontario and the province. Through his leadership at FONOM and his work with AMO, Mac was a solid voice for municipal interests and the communities they serve. He will be remembered for his dedication to public service and his lasting contributions to municipal government in Ontario.
- AMO President Riley Brockington
I’m proud to support Mayor Olivia Chow on her re-election. Her record speaks for itself and her policies have been transformative for our city. Good politics can change people’s lives, and nobody embodies that better than Mayor Chow.
Toronto, don’t forget to vote on Monday, October 26!
I’m so happy to have the endorsement of the Leader of the @OntarioNDP — @MaritStiles.
Together we advocate for strong public services, for workers, and so families can build a good life here in Toronto.
As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Davenport, Marit has been a longtime champion for our city.
My heart goes out to our Canadian Armed Forces serving in CFB Wainwright, as well as their families and loved ones, in the wake of this immense tragedy.
I cannot imagine the weight of this news for families with loved ones in the service. Canadians stand with you.
We owe a debt of gratitude to first responders and health care workers who are working around the clock to treat those have been injured.
I join Canadians from coast to coast to coast as we anxiously await more information about this incident.
Doug Ford is all sizzle, no beef. Tough talk for the cameras, and hypocrisy behind closed doors.
After the province signed a deal to buy electricity from New York state, readers weighed in on planning, politics and where Ontario’s power should come from. thestar.com/news/ontario/ont…
Doug Ford ran on a promise to save jobs and fight tariffs but has ignored anyone who told him we need to tariff-proof Ontario.
He wasted the first 1.5 years of his mandate talking tough and ignoring the very real challenges that our province is facing.
When Trump launched another attack this summer, and workers needed their Premier to act with urgency, all he did was put on a show for the cameras.
The fight has been happening, Doug. Where have you been?
Canada’s relationship with the U.S. has changed permanently, Premier Ford says at Empire Club speech in Toronto.
“We need to be prepared for the long haul. We need to plan as if tariffs are here for good,” he says. #onpoli

On behalf of all Ontario New Democrats, I'm extending my deepest sympathies to everyone who loved our dear friend and colleague, Irene Mathyssen.
Whether serving as MP or MPP, Irene worked tirelessly to make her community, province, and country a better place for everyone. She was a community champion, who fought relentlessly for women, workers, and veterans.
Irene's loss is immeasurable, but after a life spent as her community's greatest champion, she left our movement better than she found it. I'm thinking of all those who loved her, and who were fortunate to know her like I was. I will miss her infectious smile, her endless energy and of course her friendship. May she rest in peace. We love you, Irene.
Earlier today, I wrote to Doug Ford, asking him to work with the Prime Minister on a plan for public ownership of Stelco. We don’t make this call lightly, but this is a unique moment in our history. One that demands bold, ambitious, and urgent action. We must put ideology aside and put Ontario workers first.
Ontario cannot stand on the sidelines while our industrial capacity is dismantled. Inaction has already resulted in hundreds of layoffs across the province. If we wait any longer, we don't just risk losing good-paying, unionized jobs, but also decades of expertise and industrial capacity.
The best time to act has passed. The second-best time is now. Doug Ford needs to put his money where his mouth is and protect good Ontario jobs.
Well, if the Premier denies it, I guess it can't be true. Doug Ford would NEVER lie...right?
NEW - "I have been around long enough to know when I am being strong-armed by someone with political power" says Paul Godfrey in a new statement to 680 NewsRadio
The former Postmedia CEO alleges Premier Ford's then-top staffer used leverage over his son's company by promising funding to it in exchange for Postmedia running op-ed from Ford in 2025.
The Premier's office calls the allegation “Categorically untrue and completely disconnected from reality.” Godfrey calls that statement "Laughable"

ICYMI: Paul Godfrey alleged Premier Ford's office exerted "political leverage" over his son's company by promising it government funding while also seeking a favour from Postmedia, which the elder Godfrey used to run.

NEW: Postmedia's ex-CEO alleged Premier Ford's then-top staffer used "leverage" over his son's company by promising funding to it, coupled with a favour — helping get the newspaper chain to run a letter from Ford to voters on the eve of the 2025 election. thetrillium.ca/news/politics…
A new scandal every year, like clockwork. After the Greenbelt scheme, after the Skills Development Fund debacle, we're now learning about the Premier's office allegedly strong-arming the media into giving him favourable coverage.
These are Trumpian tactics for a Premier desperately clinging to power. Every Ontarian should be deeply concerned at the thought of Doug Ford leveraging his office to get the media to push his agenda.
Ontario can't afford more of Doug Ford's insider politics. An NDP government will clean up his corruption, and finally put the people of Ontario first.

Today marks three years since the horrific Hamas terror attacks that took the lives of 1,200 people, and saw over 250 taken hostage. I'm thinking of the innumerable families who suffered unimaginable loss on the deadliest day for Jewish people since the Holocaust, and keeping them close to my heart.
Ontario New Democrats will never waver in supporting our province's Jewish community, and we will always defend them against the rising tide of antisemitic hate. Jewish Ontarians have seen escalating incidents of violence, intimidation, and discrimination. Acts of antisemitism must be held to account, and condemned. Jewish families should never fear for their safety in Ontario, or for the safety of their loved ones abroad.
The ONDP joins people of conscience and humanity from around the world in calling for peace in Israel and Palestine, for human rights for all, and for an end to atrocities and genocide.
Today is a day to mourn, reflect, and hold space for each other. To choose empathy and understanding over violence and hate.
To all those whose hearts are heavy today, Ontario New Democrats are with you.
Doug Ford doesn't even pretend to care about transparency. Fake press conferences, a five-month summer vacation to dodge questions, and even changing the law to hide his personal phone records.
This is a Premier who thinks he's above accountability. He doesn't think he should have to answer to anyone; not the media, not the opposition, and certainly not Ontarians.
It's long past time that Doug Ford remembered that he works for the people of Ontario — not the other way around.
theglobeandmail.com/opinion/…
Doug Ford blamed students when he cut OSAP grants. He said they'd been abusing the system, but his government's own court records show students were always meant to be a scapegoat.
The Ford government has handed out hundreds of millions of dollars to for-profit career colleges, while failing in basic oversight. Meanwhile, our public institutions and their students are struggling amid chronic underfunding and the callous dismantling of OSAP.
Doug Ford needs to take some responsibility for what he's done to Ontario students. Pointing the finger at them doesn't cut it.

When you only spend $140 million of your $5 billion tariff relief fund, you're not serious about making your plan work. Instead, we're seeing hard-working steelworkers get laid off, with more than 350 let go in Hamilton last week alone.
Doug Ford talks a big game when it comes to supporting Ontarians, but we've seen that he doesn't put his money where his mouth is. The Premier took a 21-week summer vacation instead of getting back to the legislature, and working with us to pass a plan that actually protects our workers and businesses.
When will Doug Ford finally put Ontarians first?
