Sure seems like some in the FBI continue to violate citizens’ 4th Amendment rights. An FBI agent seized the entire chain of Daniel Chu’s text messages with his wife and the private thread was introduced as evidence. We must stop this overreach.

On Wednesday, Judge Castel will examine whether the FBI disregarded the limits of its warrant in the Tricolor case against Daniel Chu. The Fourth Amendment exists to protect Americans from unchecked power. A warrant does not authorize the government to seize everything first and sort out the constitutional limits later. Enforce the warrant and hold the government accountable.

Daniel Chu’s case is another example of prosecutorial overreach. The court’s decision to hold a hearing into whether the FBI searched beyond the warrant demonstrates a deeper failure. Call it malpractice or misconduct. Someone has to stop it.
