Long weekend in Queensland celebrating Mike and Chloe’s wedding and catching up with all the Kiwi Whanau.
Always happy to have a client leave their ride and upgrade my driveway!
The best spec for an Aston.
And the sound….
Had a great time celebrating success, resilience and excellence at the Australian Christian Business Awards
I went to see the robots. I left thinking about the people.
This week I had the privilege of touring Amazon’s extraordinary Robotics Fulfilment Centre at Kemps Creek in Western Sydney, alongside a group of fellow YPO business leaders.
The scale is difficult to comprehend.
200,000 square metres across four levels.
Australia’s largest warehouse.
Capacity for 20 million items.
Amazon’s first robotics fulfilment centre in the Southern Hemisphere.
The technology and automation are seriously impressive.
But surprisingly, that wasn’t what impressed me most.
It was the culture.
What struck me was the connection with the people Amazon calls Associates — the engagement, energy and understanding of how their role contributes to the bigger picture.
And you could see Amazon’s Leadership Principles coming to life:
Customer Obsession. Ownership.
Learn and Be Curious.
Insist on the Highest Standards. Earn Trust.
Not simply words on a wall. Behaviours you could actually observe.
For me, it reinforced a simple leadership lesson:
Technology can transform a business, but culture determines how people bring that technology to life.
An extraordinary operation and a fascinating glimpse into the future of logistics, technology and leadership.
Thank you to the Amazon team for opening the doors, and to my fellow YPO members for another opportunity to learn together.

Great weekend with so many friends.
Saying goodbye next to the beautiful cherry blossom in its best week of the year.
Caught up with the Karen and Richard Grey, and Keith and Sarah Mulray. Who stayed overnight. Always a pleasure.
Followed by Peter Delaney 70th where we connected with many friends including the Higgins Simon and Kari, Ian and Kathy Freestone, Jade and Chris Barr.
Hosted by Roberta Delaney who is always the ‘host with the most’!
A wonderful weekend of heartwarming conversations, celebration and catching up.
Caught up with these legends!
We trained together in Japan back in 2018 to become facilitators for YPO.
We’re from Australia, Dubai and Japan.
Wonderful, smart and talented people.
Thoroughly enjoyed reconnecting and sharing experiences and ideas to help serve YPO Forums.
Connecting with great people is always a privilege.
This week I was immersed in training and sharing with some of the best facilitators and trainers in the world.
All qualified by YPO to train leaders in over 130 countries.
Sharing knowledge and experience and just having a great time connecting!
One of the most useful leadership skills is knowing when not to respond immediately.
Something goes wrong.
A deadline is missed. A customer complains. Someone says something frustrating.
The temptation is to react while the emotion is still driving the decision.
Sometimes the better move is a short circuit breaker.
Pause.
Breathe.
Name what you are feeling.
Then ask yourself:
Am I responding from a state of performance, or survival?
That small pause can change the quality of the next decision and the next conversation.
This is not about becoming emotionless. Leaders are human.
It is about recognising that frustration, fear or pressure can narrow our thinking.
You may not control the situation in front of you.
You can control whether your first emotional reaction becomes your final leadership response.

If every decision still comes back to you, you may be creating dependence without realising it.
Before giving the answer, ask: “What do you think we should do?”
Build capability, not dependency.

If every decision still comes back to you, the problem may not be your team’s capability.
It may be the way the work is being led.
When leaders answer every question, approve every move and solve every problem, people quickly learn to wait.
That creates dependence.
A better habit is to pause before giving the answer and ask:
What do you think we should do?
Then follow with:
What options have you considered?
What would you recommend?
What support do you need from me?
You are still leading. You are just shifting from being the source of every answer to building better judgement in the people around you.
That matters as a business grows.
Because if every important decision still needs you, the organisation can only move as fast as you do.
Build capability, not dependency.

Your team reads your state before they absorb your strategy.
If you walk into the room tense, rushed or reactive, it changes how people think and respond.
Before an important conversation, ask: What am I bringing into this room?

That small shift builds judgement, ownership and stronger leaders over time.
