Thinking of the Czechs as they celebrate 108 years of statehood. The country is ablaze with wonderful churches.
Marvellous to have met Václav Havel in the mid-1990s. Here he is at the Castle Guard Ball. Special people come around every now and again.
The parish enclosures, or ‘les enclos paroissiaux’, in west Brittany are an extraordinary set of 16th-century churches. They feature elaborate and exquisite granite carvings on the outdoor calvaries, which tell the story of Christ’s passion.
A cracker of a day of music at King’s Lynn Minster. At lunchtime we had Loreto Aramendi from San Sebastián Basilica play on our Snetzler organ. And tonight Boris Giltburg plays the piano, including Bach’s Chaconne in D Minor. I like the spaces of spiritual calm in his pieces.

It’s not everyday you launch a new pilgrimage route. King’s Lynn Magazine has a cover story about this new route from King’s Lynn to Walsingham, on which kings, queens, medieval pilgrims, Hanseatic traders and Margery Kempe would have trod. WW=Walsingham Way
Embarking on the Zittau Way, a pilgrimage route that goes from Zittau in Saxony, Germany through central Bohemia. It is actually the east end of the European ‘Camino’, eventually joining Santiago. Stayed in Kryštofovo Údolí, or (St) Christopher’s Valley, perfect for pilgrims!
Launch of the Walsingham Way from King’s Lynn to Walsingham. The 29-mile route takes in such delights as the ruins of the Norman Castle Rising Castle and the sublime angel roof at St Mary’s, South Creake. We were also accompanied by Margery Kempe on a short segment of the route

It’s 35 years since the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Here are pieces of that fallen Wall, a symbol of freedom. There are different types of freedom, including freedom of the inner self (i.e.where God is) - ‘the truth will set you free’.
