@senmarkkelly @SenRubenGallego please include the bipartisan Sickle Cell Disease Comprehensive Care Act (S. 721/H.R. 5178) in the year-end legislative package to expand access to coordinated, comprehensive care for people living with sickle cell disease.🩸🏥#HemeSky #SCDCCA #SCD

Hey @aboutKP what the hell type of “insurance” company do you run? Who the hell tells patients to split @Jakafi tablets in half?! Are you being cheap idiots? @Incyte you should look into this.

Hey #classicalheme #hematology friends - I have a young female patient with chronic thrombocytosis. She tested negative for JAK2, CALR, and MPL mutations. I want to screen her for familial thrombocytosis.

Are there any cost-free panels that assess for the THPO germline mutation? I’ve heard Invitae’s panel is $1500 and unlikely to be covered by insurance…

@Aetna some advice for you. If a doctor is advertised as being “in-network” on your website, you should know your “customers” will assume their benefits are covered. APPARENTLY that isn’t true. We have to read the fine print.

I reviewed the website again…on the side, there is a comment if a doctor offers “maximum savings” versus “standard savings” This crap should be ILLEGAL. It is deceiving and is PLAIN WRONG. @AZAGMayes can you look into this?

@AOAforDOs @AmerMedicalAssn we should stop this disgusting practice!

Hey @Aetna I am a physician, but clearly I don’t understand the insurance game. As a patient, I knew it would be best to seek an in-network physician. After receiving excellent care, I have been charged MULTIPLE times despite having met my deductible…

Despite having paid a $50 copay, I was just notified I owe ANOTHER $50? This is in addition to the “co-insurance” I owed for the damn procedure. It would behoove you to explain yourself. If you’re doing this to me, I’m sure you’re screwing over my patients! #healthinsurance

I’ve already paid over $500 which apparently covered the out-of-pocket costs for my in-network procedure. @HonorHealth - care to chime in?

To suggest that ID only matters once anemia develops ignores decades of evidence and the lived experience of countless women with heavy menstrual bleeding and symptomatic iron depletion. And documenting criticism of a colleague’s management in the chart is deeply unprofessional.

What on earth?! An OB/GYN mentioned in his note that he doesn’t understand why I diagnosed and treated a patient with iron deficiency given the normal hemoglobin. Her ferritin was 33 and she has heavy periods!!!

He wrote “questioned rationale for ongoing iron infusions when not anemic and counseled that iron is treatment for anemia not a supplements”. Come on, man. Could’ve at least emailed me. By the way, this lady had severe iron efficiency just last summer, WITH anemia.

The AMA applauds bipartisan legislation to exempt international medical graduate physicians from the $100,000 H-1B visa fee - a critical step to ensure patients, especially in underserved areas, have access to care. Thank you to @RepMikeLawler, @SanfordBishop, @MaElviraSalazar, and @RepYvetteClarke for introducing the bill, and we call on Congress to act quickly to protect patients’ access to care. spr.ly/6010B6r31q
