I think most marketers will still get this wrong going into 2027: Don't spend 100% of your time on ads. Spend 50% of your time on ads and 50% of your time optimizing the landing page you are sending people to

Question: We've been in the marketing game for a while, but "hey, we made too many", I see probably six, seven, eight brands a day on Meta using that as their hook. At what point does it just become disingenuous? My 2 cents: This is one of my biggest pieces of advice for every company on planet Earth. Stop copying your competitors. The whole point of marketing is to stand out. That's the whole point. To give people a reason to choose you over your competitors. Yet every company, we have like 40 active clients on retainer now for our for our ad agency and every company says, go look at with this brand, our our like highest revenue competitor is doing, copy their ads, copy their this, copy their that. Then you blend in. And when they're running a sale that says we made too many, now we're at 50% off for a limited time, and you say that, now you're the same as them. Use your thinking cap or use Claude, but find a way to be different in your sales, in your product names, in your website design. Even in the colorways of your clothes, if you sell clothes, like whatever it is, do not copy your competitors.

Question: A lot of B2B marketers rely on LinkedIn ads for like enterprise pipeline, but founders, you know, we tell them that ninety percent of their ad budget should be on Meta and Google. Why is LinkedIn ad like why do they underperform? is there a secret to getting LinkedIn ads to work? My 2 cents: Yes, there is a secret to getting LinkedIn ads to work. And it's retargeting. When people land on your website, the next time they open up LinkedIn, they should see an ad... Ideally, a testimonial ad, like a video of some of your customers talking and saying how awesome you are. That is by far and away the best way to make LinkedIn ads work from my experience. Prospecting ads can work, but it's so darn expensive and the creative has to be so unique and stand out in the LinkedIn feed that it's really hard to get any sort of ROI, any sort of value from prospecting campaigns on LinkedIn. Now, there are anomalies, there are brands I've met with who are crushing it on LinkedIn, but it's way better off if you're just starting to do a retargeting ad and stick to meta. If you scrape your target audience from LinkedIn Sales Navigator or any other platform upload it to Meta and run ads from them, you'll find a lot more success.

Here's the correct opinion on the Tyler Denk <> Marc Lou newsletter software drama: > MailCheap's launch is objectively a FLOP @marclou's posts dunking on @denk_tweets and promoting his vibe-coded product have 2.5M+ views 7 days later, MailCheap has just 27 customers ($653 MRR). That’s about 1 customer for every 70k people who saw it > Yet, even if MailCheap is not successful long-term, it's still a WIN for Marc He's gained a massive amount of attention and is continuing to grow his cult-like following > Marc is a genius marketer, but… Tyler Denk is too This is King Kong versus Godzilla. These are two of the best guys in the world at creating spectacles and controversy (around niche business topics). > Tyler took control of the narrative and shifted it from "beehiiv price increase" to "vibe-coded software Vs beehiiv’s track record" No one's talking about beehiiv's prices anymore. And a ton of people have jumped in to justify the pricing - or talk about how low it is compared to other email competitors. INSTEAD, we're now arguing about the topics where beehiiv has an edge: Deliverability, product, track record And yes… People are crying about Tyler “punching down.” Tyler’s provocative language (basement dwellers) is harsh on purpose. He gets back in the spotlight and can direct it where he wants. The reaction: Pearl-clutching and people accusing Tyler of being a “bad guy” because he counterpunched after being attacked first. > No one will care about Marc fans taking the 'moral high ground' 3 months from now... But they remember beehiiv. > The idea that Tyler and beehiiv should just shut up and put their heads down is stupid anyway If you are attacked, the right move is to attack back. Most people don't realize that power comes from attention and positioning. Not what your revenue is now. Marc's influence is on the same level as Tyler, if not bigger. It would be stupid to not respond and let Marc control the narrative and his positioning in the ESP market without pushback. Every founder needs to tell their own story, or someone else will do it for you. No one is bullying anyone. Beehiiv is a bigger business. But Marc has 350,000+ more followers - and is the #1 or #2 influencer in the indie hacker space Both these guys started building in public around the same time in ~2022 and are around the same age. We can let founders have a fun debate without all the moral-high-ground BS. You can't win as a founder by staying quiet anymore. You need to be loud. Polarizing. You must control the narrative to build a category-defining business. And remember… We're talking about email here. It's not that serious. This is marketing. They both get massive attention. Nobody gets hurt. Everyone wins. P.S. Online debates strip away nuance and dumb things down. That’s why IN-PERSON discussions are so much better. If Tyler and Marc both want to chat at New Media Summit 2027 (@TheNMSummit ) I'm happy to arrange it.

Question: Dream Marketing Max partnership to make swag or something that represented the Marketing Max brand. Kind of like the question of the week. If you were to sell something in gift shop about your life, what would you sell in the Marketing Max media gift shop? My 2 cents: It hurts me that I don't have a good answer for that. There should be some like I don't know, I listen to a lot of podcasts and there's like inside jokes. Maybe in six months or a year we'll have something like that. But I think really what I want to sell at the end of the day is just help. I wanna help people make marketing easier and not waste money on Facebook ads and Google ads and social media marketing managers that just don't convert and just that don't work. So I don't know what that is. Maybe it's a book. Maybe it's a coffee table book of strategies. If it's gonna be something cute or cool. Maybe not like an actual book, but maybe it's a coffee table book.
