Tadeusz #Kosciuszko always called himself Lithuanian in the letters. He was born in the lands of Grand Duchy of #Lithuania. In the letter of 1789 he wrote: ,,Któż jestem, jeśli nie Litwin?" (Who am I, if not a Lithuanian?"). #history #culture

Cézanne made just four harlequin paintings in his career, and this fall, the only one remaining in private hands is coming to #SothebysNewYork. ‘Arlequin,’ made between 1888 and 1890, sets the scene for the birth of modernity.
Here, Sotheby’s Helena Newman examines the elements of this harlequin that make it such a masterpiece of Cézanne’s career.
The subject, modeled on his son, stands unwaveringly with an almost mask-like expression on his face. This is in contrast to the energetic, opulent blue and red background, highlighting Cézanne’s innovative ability to build depth through manipulation of color and form.
This is a work of juxtaposition and immediacy. You see a solitary figure from the Commedia dell’arte, his defined, diamond costume is set against the lush, loosely painted environment—every element coming together to establish Cézanne as the 'father of modernism.'
‘Arlequin’ will star in Legendary: The Blaquier-Arrieta Collection on 18 November. Register to bid on this modern masterpiece: bit.ly/4zXbGIm

Some of the sharpest analyses of Israeli politics come from Daniel Levy.
This should be subtitled in every language. Short, clear, impeccable.
Daniel Levy | Former Israeli Peace Negotiator | US/Middle East Project (@USMEP):
Netanyahu did not alone commit genocide for 3 years. He did not alone maintain decades of illegal occupation. It was system-wide.
Eisenkot was part of it & served in the military. He sat in the emergency unity security cabinet after Oct. 7 - during the genocide.
Israeli generals, soldiers & judges - all part of a system-wide mobilization. Dissenting voices existed but remained marginal.

He forgets, that poland is the same as Russia, looting, occupying other countries and rewriting history. Polski instytut even said on FB, that poland dosen't have borders. So, poland is Russia, only in smaller size. All region knows what is polonization and polish imperialism.
🇵🇱 “The myth that Russia always wins has been successfully planted in the West. But history tells a very different story,” — Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski
The minister pointed out that Russia has not always emerged victorious from its wars:
“They lost the Crimean War. They lost the war against Japan. They emerged from World War I with their tails between their legs. They lost their invasion of Poland. They lost in Afghanistan. And they lost the Cold War.”
“So things can turn out very differently,” Sikorski emphasized.

Brilliant news and the move across the country to convert former Assad military air bases to civilian and tourism airports (notably #Palmyra, otherwise a long and dreary bus ride across the desert from #Damascus) is an excellent one, improving #Syria's infrastructure & bringing much-needed jobs to a population still 90% below the poverty line
Reconversion of Mazzeh Airbase in #Damascus is in full swing.
Work began last month to transform it into a purely civilian Airport.
It will relieve Damascus International Airport & host private & business jets, as well as VIPs & potentially official delegations.
Mazzeh Airbase is a sinister symbol of the war, as it was used to shell areas such as Daraya & was home to the Air Force Intelligence HQ, a detention & torture center.
Less than 24 hours after Assad's fall, it was heavily bombed by Israel, with its Gazelle fleet wrecked.
The reconversion will be carried out in several phases, while a number of areas identified as potentially containing mass graves are currently excluded from the works.
Fresh satellite imagery shows work has begun in at least 10 different locations, from rubble removal to the demolition of some structures, incl. defensive positions.
Mazzeh's reconversion is not an isolated case, but part of a broader Government plan to boost civilian flights & activity after years of airports being used as military facilities under Assad.
The reopening of Deir Ezzor Airport to civilian flights last August & the recovery of Latakia International Airport from Russia are the latest examples of this policy.
Palmyra Airbase, in Homs desert, will follow same fate: it will be reconverted into a civilian facility dedicated to tourism.

“Give us back our homeland”: Circassians protest outside Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate
Members of the Circassian diaspora called for the right to return to their historic homeland to be guaranteed for them and their descendants.
Activists are calling for a state repatriation programme that would grant them residency and citizenship rights, as well as assistance with relocation, employment and language learning.
Their demand is rooted in one of the darkest chapters in Caucasian history.
After the century-long Russo-Circassian War, which ended in 1864, the Russian Empire expelled a vast proportion of the Circassian population to the Ottoman Empire.
According to one historical estimate, around one million people — up to 90% of the Circassian people — were forced to leave their homeland.
Many died of hunger and disease or during the crossing of the Black Sea. Historians increasingly regard these events as genocide.
More than 160 years later, a significant proportion of Circassians still live outside the Caucasus, particularly in Turkey, Jordan, Syria, Germany and other countries.
