"GenAI" is the worst tech invention of the century. The current Israeli gov't/military are engaging in genocidal acts and war crimes. "No" is a complete sentence; women don't owe men their time, attention, or anything else. "The West" is *not* under attack. Follow/unfollow 🤷

Entrapment: "Money is really tight right now. I could sell information to you; are you interested? What would you want/need?" Not entrapment: Pers. 1 "I'm having a tough time financially, and am looking for a better job" Pers. 2 "Don't quit; I'll could pay you for info"
Oh what a tangled web we weave How is this not entrapment?

This is a "I didn't think the leopard would eat *my* face!" moment for folk out there who thought that Meta glasses were only invading other's privacy.

There's another intentional consequence at play: if people remove web links from their Meta accounts, it helps with Meta's goal of reducing eyeballs leaving FB, Insta, etc., and heading to a third-party sites. Meta *wants* your attention at all times, without 'distractions'.
If you're an investor, Meta shed $115B today. But if you're a business or artist with intellectual property, watch the clock. 8 days until Meta claims right to scrape your site to develop its AI. Your consent? Apparently unnecessary. All it takes is use of Meta's services.

Someone earning £300k is in the top 1% of all salaried workers in the UK. Of the 30M wage earners in the UK, fewer than 300,000 persons are earning more than £207k/year, which is the 2026 threshold for that percentile. A take-home salary of £2.8k/week isn't a hardship, IMO.
Mad when you see it in a graphic how much tax a £300,000 salary pays in tax.

I can just hear all of the scammers out there drooling over the prospect of running endless honey-traps. If this thing launches, a *lot* of gullible men are going to end up being parted from significant amounts of cash.

As part of my undergrad studies, I did a very deep dive into the outcomes of charges laid against companies and their officers under this Act. Of 46 cases between 2012 and 2023, the lowest fine for a guilty plea to Corporate Manslaughter was £8,000. /2

And here's the second page. As I completed the relevant module back in early 2023, I didn't revisit or update the data since then - and given how incredibly grim most of the research was, I declined to continue with it as part of my masters studies. /5

All of this is to say that the righteous anger felt in the wake of Aberfan, and other similar avoidable tragedies, has still not brought about meaningful changes in law to hold corporations, and their executives, accountable to a degree that most would deem satisfactory. /end

As yesterday was the 60th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster, I've been thinking about how little has changed in the UK re. holding companies to account for preventable deaths, even under (relatively) new law such as the Corporate Manslaughter & Corporate Homicide Act 2007. /1

Looks like Ukraine's resistance against Russia's attacks is about to step up a notch . . .

The bar is in hell. "AI" companies warning the judiciary that deepfakes are now so convincing, there's a risk of faked evidence being used in criminal or civil proceedings. They're seriously warning about risks that have come about FROM THE FUCKIN' PRODUCTS THEY MAKE

It's basically a way for the developers to collect data while users test the various games in the app. Like the saying does 'If something's free, you're the product being sold.' I just wish I could push this story to more eyes. That's all👀🫤 youtube.com/watch?v=L5pXR3h8…

The drive to replace mechanical switches and panels with a touchscreen display is nonsensical. As the OP has pointed out, operating these screens in suboptimal conditions can be challenging at best - but they also introduce risk of a single-point-of-failure for multiple controls.
I have personally flown with the new “Touch Screen Control Display Unit” TSCDU and I am not a fan. The first significant issue I encountered was trying program it during moderate turbulence. It was difficult to push the correct place on the screen and actuate the proper command. I prefer the textile feel of pushing a button, especially in turbulence. I also despise all the greasy fingers prints from previous pilots. I’m sure maintenance appreciates these new screens, however I am guessing I’m not alone with pilots despising them…..just my personal observation. Anyone else flown with them?

I recently tried to sell a fridge/freezer via the hellscape that is Facebook Marketplace; is it just me, or have reading comprehension abilities fallen off a cliff edge? Asking due to the following interactions: (cont.)

[Context: it was after 10pm] Them: "Is this available?" Me: "Yes" Them: "Ground floor or flat?" Me: "Ground floor" Them: "Are you home now?" Me: (glances at time) " . . . no. But it could be collected anytime tomorrow, Tuesday, or Wednesday" Them: "Sorry, can't do that"

So, yeah, that was a fraction of the crazy I encountered on FB Marketplace. What I ended up doing was calling @TheBHF and asking them to collect the fridge (and a few other things) thus avoiding landfill *and* helping out a good cause too: bhf.org.uk/shop/donating-goo…
