Zilliqa, Previously Backed by Polychain Capital, Announces Pivot from Standalone Layer 1 to Ethereum L2
Zilliqa announced that it will transition from a standalone Layer 1 to an Ethereum Layer 2 called the Zilliqa Institutional Layer (ZIL), targeting regulated institutions. Zilliqa stated that usage on its legacy chain was insufficient to sustain standalone operations; the new network will be secured by Ethereum for settlement, feature built-in identity and compliance mechanisms, and establish permissioned markets for verified institutional participants.
Zilliqa noted that tokenholders currently do not need to take any action, with technical details to be released ahead of the transition. Founded in 2017 by a research team from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Zilliqa raised approximately $22 million across seed and ICO rounds between late 2017 and early 2018, with major backers including Polychain Capital, FBG Capital, and NGC Ventures.
OKX’s compliance and special investigations teams are probably the most epic people.
I encountered this firsthand when proposing reforms to the OKX business development (BD) team. Most of my suggestions were rejected due to compliance concerns. For instance, I proposed offering high leverage for various trading pairs, but this was turned down because it could trigger abnormal volatility in smaller, less liquid markets (even though exchanges that prioritize trading volume often allow leverage as high as 500x to 1000x). I also suggested listing more trading pairs, but most were rejected because the projects failed to pass the compliance vetting process. In this context, compliance equates to being "less attractive"-or, perhaps more accurately, it makes things attractive in a different, more cautious way.
Getting laid off from OKX is an elite club filled with legends, that I am honored to have joined yesterday.
What an insane adventure it’s been. I am incredibly proud of the work I did while I was there, and my heart is full of gratitude for the amazing co-workers who truly have become family. I was brought on to do DEX BD, where I was the #1 BD for volume and trader deals. After that team was re-org’d, I joined dex opps, focusing on AI integrations, and started a vibe-coding club with Solana Superteam USA.

I was next tasked with helping to expand OKX’s creator program, which I doubled in two weeks, created a bounty program that is now used by/ sought after by many teams, and got to work alongside some brilliant creatives to really help it become more personal. I know I worked w/ most of y’all reading this, and from the bottom of my heart, the lack of clarity around that program killed me more than you know, and I hate that X is how I have to say my formal goodbye. I got to learn the ins and outs of a centralized exchange, throw events at the New York Stock exchange, and across the world as we entered new markets. I truly learned invaluable lessons, (and don’t worry I definitely preached self-custody daily… after all it is about mitigating risk & diversifying assets!)
Speaking of risk, OKX’s compliance and special investigations teams are probably the most epic people I have ever met. I think working with them, & learning from them has been the highlight of my career. They made me realize the true value of a cex (something I NEVER thought I would say)
And throughout all of this, I had unlimited claude tokens & became resident vibe coder for all of my teams. Never once did I think I would be creating technology. What a time to be alive.
Its time to return to my roots; decentralization, trading, education, & being in control of executing quickly & seeing projects through until the end.
