I like history and the immortal science of Marxism-Leninism but mostly I talk about life in the empire.

Could you explain exactly which part of the vicious and brutal torture of animals to produce luxury "food" solely for the benefit of the wealthy strikes you as something that should be apolitical?

It is incredible how much the ag industry kicks and screams and gnashes its teeth when you try to make them cut back on only the most extreme and egregious acts of their many instances of mass-scale animal torture and abuse.

With the current state of agentic AI, no one needs to explicitly control the strings to destroy the world wide web. Cyber-balkanization and unified bio-digital identity have already been set in motion through self-reinforcing loops from our current trajectory.

I do believe that certain groups have a vested interest in ensuring it *does* come to pass that way, but the rate of the technology is going to mean no one has a choice soon enough.

@ any internet researchers/archaeologists: Archive any old legacy PHP blogs/sites you care about, as there is a nonzero chance they will vanish from the live web forever in the coming days.

""Comrade"" - you are not "wrestling with the contradictions." You are getting played by the Democrats. Again!

You don't actually "have power" if "your" elected officials just ignore you every time it's convenient for them to do so.

Greenwood cemetery has plenty of mausoleums for some of the city’s wealthiest residents, as grandiose as you’d expect. But what moved me the most was the last grave: someone loved these people enough to leave fresh decorations so they could still experience the changing seasons.

A mausoleum is such a declaration of self-importance. They're built to resist and deny time. "I mattered so much that I will outlast you all!" Whereas totems and kitsch invite the dead to continue to participate in time. "This person matters to me, still."

I haven't seen any proof of actual regional diesel outages and I'm raising an eyebrow at every account posting that because they saw a different account posting that.

I'm not trying to be mean but all the "I feel like something bad is going to happen soon" posts are frying me. It already happened! The consequences are lurching toward you as you breathe.

People are finally starting to become concerned about how they'll handle the rising *price* of food and oil, but by this point the problem has shifted to how the world will handle the *rationing* of food and oil for at least the next few years.

The current state of the oil market + bond market means you are about to see prices for EVERYTHING that will make you nostalgic for 2022.
