I fear for the day where we become helpless as a society without AI. Nobody will know deep communication, skill-building, relationships, because all they'll need to do is pull out a screen (maybe) and say, "gimme". When Chat GPT became a thing, it was shocking to see how it completely stormed by everyone's computers and then just like that, became a normal household phrase. I can understand using it for basic tasks, but when society becomes limited by unwavering reliance on some non-human device, my worry is they forget to be human in the process eventually. Humans will become increasingly more powerful but also increasingly more incapable of living in a normal world. Forgetting to learn, to grow, to experience, to fail. And being human, despite its flaws, is pretty freaking cool. What happens if the power grid shuts down? Internet shuts off? You're screwed. Good luck with your argument you're in, that you don't actually have the basic communication skills to navigate without reassurance from a voice in your pocket telling you you're doing a good job, and that "you're in the right." Sometimes, as a human, it's good to learn that you were the asshole. Constant validation from AI that most people receive isn't going to condition you to be able to handle real world communication or challenging scenarios. The danger is when the "tool" stops being something you use and becomes something you cannot function without. I'm such a chill guy... and this whole topic is something I'm pretty firm in my stances with, and I'm not out here to fight anybody. I'm not mad at AI's full existence, I just don't understand why people are looking so forward to the day it can do what we want it to do. We're supposed to fail, to get up and try again. We're supposed to make mistakes and grow and there's no fun or pride in any of that with Chat in my pocket patting me on the back or justifying some action that doesn't deserve it. Society just would feel bleak in that world to me. Anyway, that's my venting for the night.
