I welcome the recent progress made in the peace process in eastern DRC, as we pursue efforts to establish lasting stability in the region. On 12 and 13 August, representatives from the DRC and Rwanda, as well as representatives from the US, Qatar and Togo

Representatives from the DRC and Rwanda, together with the United States, Qatar, Togo, and the African Union Commission, convened the sixth Joint Security Coordination Mechanism meeting at the U.S. Mission in Geneva, Switzerland.
The DRC and Rwanda agreed to advance two initiatives to strengthen monitoring and verification of implementation of the Washington Accords on the ground. The parties also agreed to hold a trilateral planning conference in October 2026, culminating in a revised Operations Order to guide their coordinated efforts.

The United States is concerned by recent acts of violence in Zawiya and Benghazi. The United States condemns the attacks on the Zawiya refinery and killing of Libyan National Army Director of Military Intelligence Fawzi al-Mansouri in Benghazi.
We call for thorough investigations into the attacks and for those responsible to be held accountable.
These attacks underscore the need for unified, professional military and security institutions capable of providing security for the Libyan people.
Our diplomatic and strategic return to Libya, after years of withdrawal, aims to counter Russia's influence, secure energy markets in the Mediterranean and stabilize the area; this is important for controlling migration flows and the security of the Sahel. 🇺🇸🇱🇾
