➥ ERC-7857: The Missing Piece for x402 and ERC-8004 The transparency of blockchain is both a blessing and a curse. Once you put your agents on-chain, everything becomes visible. Anyone can copy them, MEV bots can exploit them, and you ultimately risk losing your competitive edge. But how can we retain ownership of agentic intelligence and ensure their proprietary machine knowledge remains secure? ERC-7857 might hold the key. — ➤ WTH is ERC-7857? Currently, we have these frameworks for AI agents: ▸ x402 → Payment layer ▸ ERC-8004 → Reputation layer We currently lack a 'privacy' layer for these agents. ERC-7857, introduced by @0G_labs and proposed by @sparkmiw, @michaelh_0g, @zenghbo, and @Wilbert957, is the potential candidate to fulfill this role. In simple terms, ERC-7857 confirms ownership without disclosing the asset's proprietary information, allowing an AI agent to be 'patented'. ERC-7857 provides: ▸ Encryption and clone-proofing of dynamic private metadata without ownership change ▸ Memory layer for AI agents (e.g.: LoRA-based and RAG data sources) ▸ Secure transfer using TEEs re-encryption ▸ Rentals and interoperability features (backward compatibility with ERC-721) It enables AI agents to be minted as iNFTs (Intelligent NFTs), each with its own identity, memory, and behavioral patterns securely encoded on-chain. — ➤ How it Works ERC-7857 comprises the following three primary interfaces: ▸ Main NFT interface ▸ Metadata interface ▸ Data validation interface Here's an overview of how it functions: ▸ Agents' metadata is encrypted (e.g., with AES-GCM) before being stored on decentralized storage. ▸ Encryption keys are sealed to the owner’s public key, ensuring only the owner can decrypt the data. ▸ When ownership changes, an oracle (using TEE or ZKP) re-encrypts the data for the new owner without exposing it. ▸ The smart contract verifies cryptographic proofs from the oracle to confirm the data's integrity and ensure it hasn't been tampered with. ▸ Owners have the ability to clone NFTs with the same metadata or authorize others to use them without transferring ownership. Currently, emerging ERC-7857 projects are primarily concentrated on @0G_labs, where ERC-7857 was initially developed. — ➤ Why it Matters Imagine this scenario: ▸ AI music with unique voice samples and tunes ▸ Trading AI employing sophisticated delta-neutral and arbitrage strategies ▸ Agentic creator personas that learn and evolve with feedback ▸ Pharma AI synthesizing and designing 3D protein structures Each possesses 'special' knowledge that defines their uniqueness. Once this knowledge becomes publicly known on-chain, it loses its value because it's trade secret has been already known. ERC-7857 prevent this and bringing a new paradigm for agent ownership on-chain and across industries, making machine intelligence is truly tradable.
