Take this from a guy that never wrestled until he put on mma gloves. Collegiate wrestling is the most entertaining sport to watch that there is. The athleticism shown at the ncaa tournament blows everything on earth away. The reason it doesn’t translate to mma is because they are penalized for stalling, stalling is half the goal in mma.

In overtime - Van Ness and Swiderski battled like dogs, literally going head to head several times in back and forth attacks/reattacks.
Eventually Swiderski couldn’t keep up the pace and fell to known cardio merchant Shayne VAN NESS (PSU)

The 5-seed in NCAA wrestling is a TRAP.
We parsed 640 championship bracket matches from the last two NCAA D1 tournaments. What the data says:
▪️12-seed beats the 5-seed 58% of the time
▪️1-seeds go 40-0 through the Round of 16... then lose 20% of their QFs
▪️7 vs 10 is a coin flip (55% upset rate)
▪️The Final? 40% upset rate. Seeding means almost nothing by Saturday night.
Building a full seed-matchup probability model across 10 years of brackets before Cleveland next week.
The 5-seed is the most overvalued position in the NCAA tournament. Bet accordingly.
