have always wanted to submit a conference session called “𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘈𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴.” Because in math education, the impact never comes from the routine, activity, or the resource itself, it comes from the thinking behind it. kgmathminds.com/2026/02/19/m…

How a webinar math task could support student and teacher learning: kgmathminds.com/2026/01/25/l…
Collaboration in our classrooms shapes who talks, whose ideas are taken up, and the depth of understanding that emerges. I just posted part two of my adaptation series focused on structuring small group work: kgmathminds.com/2025/11/28/a…
Adapting lessons is probably one of my favorite problem solving activities as a teacher. I love the design challenge of ensuring the adaptations support students in accessing and meaningfully engaging with that math while addressing the learning goal. kgmathminds.com/2025/11/25/a…
If my years watching (and rewatching) Glee! taught me anything it is that I can't resist a good mashup! 🎶
So when @jennalaib shared her latest Slow Reveal Graph, I had to combine two of my favorite math activity structures. #mtbos kgmathminds.com/2025/11/23/s…

+ The whole group discussion often goes way beyond what is on their papers as they bounce ideas around, but now each kid has a starting point in the discussion!

first vs starting with the whole group and having other students share those ideas before I call on them. I find they become more invested in the collective ideas when their idea is one of the recorded ones.

me know what each student knows and has questions about which I can't track in the whole group. Also, when students are journaling I can walk around and plan who starts the whole group share so I can be sure a student who might only have 1-2 ideas down gets to share+

For sure! I push the whole group share until after independent journaling so each student has time to reflect on their understanding. I think it supports all students in the whole group discussion vs when we jump right into whole group. Instructionally, it helps me +
Unsure if any of the #mtbos folks are here anymore, but I am dusting off the blog and excited to be writing again! kgmathminds.com/2025/11/22/f…
Teacher friends....which do you find is most challenging to teach? Would love to hear what makes it hard in the comments! #mtbos #mathteaching

The first deck in Addition and Subtraction by Heart II focuses on adding within 20 and uses 10 frames as the visual representation. For the first few times students see a card, they can move around the counters. Learn more at fluency.amplify.com
Sooo much fun working through this problem! Thanks Zak!
I created this immersive math task for our math play date last week.
You can download it at bit.ly/ShuffleArt. Enjoy!
