if you changed the group being spoken about it would really feel like we were living in a dystopian neo-Nazi society

The "scary" moment when you realize your parents chose to have you rather than being forced to
The vibe of this cartoon is their kid was wanted by two loving parents who have provided a nice house, can have a good time and relax, but clearly model and encourage reading...

“Disgusted?
Not by the pedophilia, the abuse, the mother who proffered her own children as sacrifices to her lover? No, JD wasn’t “disgusted” by any of that. He was “disgusted” by Republicans who wanted no part in Vivek Ramaswamy’s lies.”

The real reason JD Vance, Ramaswamy and MAGA are sticking by the disgusting rape ad is that they think this effectively puts Trump on the ballot. They think MAGA hate politics is still ascendant.
See this from @atrupar:
The deeper reason Trump, Vance, and Vivek are backing the vile rape ad is they think MAGA politics—the cruelty, the depravity, the viciousness—is still ascendant.
They think doing this in some sense puts Trump on the ballot.

Glass half full take: I appreciate them speed running their abandonment of principles and embrace of gutter politics rather than dragging it out
After some initial shock, MAGA media figures like Glenn Beck and Ben Shapiro have come to embrace Vivek Ramaswamy's ad starring Amy Acton's estranged mother.

The rise of general anticapitalist sentiment, especially since it's so generational, so the noteworthy thing here

There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal U.S. Senator.

Me: "Do you know how many times you've tweeted about Piker since you wrote that tweet [about not tweeting about him] on August 30th?"
@mattyglesias: "Probably more than I intended to."
Me: "8 times.... you tweeted about Mike Rogers 6 times. So you're tweeting about the streamer you didn't want to talk about more than the Republican candidate you say you want to defeat."
Yglesias: "Yeah, that's fair."
Me: "Why?"
Yglesias: "What do you want me to say? You got me."
From my new Zeteo interview with the top centrist pundit - on the left, Michigan, Gaza, immigration, polls, electability, and more:

Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Yglesias's posts since Aug 30 include ~5 mentioning Piker and at least 9 mentioning Rogers/Rodgers, not 8 and 6. Hasan posted about Piker ~35 times in the period.

This reminds me of what Yglesias wrote after my Substack essay on him last year. Hilariously, he also implied I was "ripping off" @NathanJRobinson's essay in Current Affairs, because apparently only one person is allowed to argue he's consistently wrong about things.
Matt Yglesias's debate with @mehdirhasan isn't even out yet, and Yglesias is already doing damage control.
