If you go and watch "The Old Mill" on youtube you'll see why it's Miyazaki's favourite Disney work. A masterpiece focusing just on wildlife and weather, very familiar Ghibli motifs ofc.
The reason environments from early 3D era feel memorable is bcos forced to use simple, distinctive shapes. Classic design principle enforced by limitation.

This book about Hayao Miyazaki's contributions to model kit magazines goes on sale today. There's no telling how much art work is in the book, but I'm going to take the leap and find out, so look out for my review. Purchase link in comments below 👇

Watched Disney Pixar "Hoppers" yesterday was pretty good... glad 3d are using the non-shiny Genndy Tartakovsky style eyes now it looks so much less uncanny. Actually looking forward to this...
There's some more interesting eye related stuff in this movie, the animals have toon-eyes in some contexts but bead-eyes in others v similar to the raccoons in Takahata's "Pom Poko"!
