I’ve shared this before, but since so many of you have found me here in election season I’ll do so again.
My dad was dying of cancer when he wrote me this note. I had just arrived in Afghanistan. Dad had three tours in Vietnam under his belt.
All about perspective and yes, certain countries like the one the president described do indeed exist!

TWENTY THREE DOGS. STARVED, CHAINED, AND FORCED TO FIGHT FOR A CROWD.
Vidalia, Louisiana police got a 911 call Thursday about a dogfight. Officers walked up on two dogs fighting in front of a crowd. About six people ran. Police chased them down in the city cemetery.
Then they found the rest.
18 dogs at the home, 4 locked in vehicles. 5 more at a second property police tie to the same man.
Chief Joey Merrill says the dogs were “living in total filth, starved and attached to about six square feet of chain.” Several will likely have to be put down.
Police say Thomas Dotson, 37, who lived at the home, faces 21 counts of cruelty, 1 aggravated cruelty and 1 dogfighting. Derrick Johnson, 23, and Antonio Swanson, 31, are charged with cruelty and dogfighting. Laquintay Kelly, 36, with 3 cruelty counts and dogfighting. Curtis Randall, 59, and Sidney Smith, 68, with 5 cruelty counts each. More arrests are possible.
The Vidalia Dog Pound needs food and adopters. The local shelter is full.
These dogs never got a choice. You do. Can you take one home?
