So if you want to understand capitalism, you need to be talking to small business owners, portfolio managers, and Marxists. Nobody else can really talk about it with any substance.

SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios.
The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios.
Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said.
Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior.

I show this clip in my capitalism class every year to illustrate relative surplus value via the division of labor. An amazing/hilarious performance by Riehle. RIP.

Great time talking about workforce and responsible data center development w/@MarshallGenzer for @Marketplace on behalf of @LIUNAMinnesota.
The challenges aren't unique -- we hear similar objections to factories, housing, transmission, solar/wind, etc. 1/ marketplace.org/story/2026/1…
Interesting problem: efforts to reduce fossil demand lower prices, creating more consumption/emissions *elsewhere*.
Efforts to restrict supply yields higher prices, profits, & fossil investment ("carbon lock-in").
So, neither is a substitute for massive clean energy buildout.
New podcast: SHOULD CLIMATE ACTIVISTS KEEP FIGHTING FOSSIL FUEL INFRASTRUCTURE?
Few researchers have been as influential in the fight against fossil fuel infrastructure as @SEI_Erickson. His analysis of the Keystone XL pipeline was used by the Obama admin, and he’s a frequent expert witness against key projects.
But recently his research has started to warn against a counterintuitive side effect of constraining oil production: It can actually enrich the fossil fuel industry by transferring wealth from consumers to producers.
This wealth transfer can be enormous — and much larger than the price of an averted barrel.
Earlier this week, I sat down with him to discuss this shift in his work, why fossil fuel supply remains important, and what it all means for the future of climate policy.

A great essay. Steve and Scott are ably building off and expanding Panitch and Gindin's unique and impt theory of imperialism.
Wrote a book review/essay for @antipodeonline on the US electricity system, risk, time and power.
Review brings together Nikki Luke's 'Electric Life' and @electricgeog 'Brokers of Power' - both must reads for anyone interested in electricity!

I read this in print last night (subscribe!) and it is indeed a very good/useful piece in understanding US economic empire and the role of the dollar.
Just a reminder that I have a feature essay in the latest Jacobin issue (except below). It's a very good issue and worth subscribing for: jacobin.com/subscribe
