We’re pleased to announce that the Ivan Mauger OBE Stockport Blue Plaque was unveiled yesterday.
Delighted to have played a part.
More to follow.
And on a Weslake. Still looks so unusual.
OTD 45 years ago - the final ever meeting was held at the Boulevard as the Vikings defeated the Halifax Dukes 46-32 in the Yorkshire Cup.

Remembering Ivan Mauger OBE, born 87 years ago today. His skill, determination and professionalism transformed the sport and inspired generations around the world.
His remarkable legacy lives on. 🏁
It’s 58 years today since my first Speedway meeting on 28 September 1968. Belle Vue v Newcastle. I can picture heat 1 as if it happened 5 minutes ago. Hard to imagine a better introduction and 58 years of inspiration from Ivan.
It’s 57 years since Ivan’s second world championship at Wembley on 13 September 1969.
My first visit to Wembley and first world final.
No doubt like thousands of others it is as vivid as if it happened 5 minutes ago.
A great day and a great achievement

“My hunger for another winning night was still intact. Defeated champions invariably say, 'I'll be back' after a defeat, & I was no different. The thing is, I meant it. I was absolutely determined to give one more supercharged effort to the 1979 campaign.” 🐐

It’s 47 years since 2 September 1979 when Ivan won his record breaking 6th World Championship. It was a great comeback from the 1978 World Final when Ivan finished on 8 points - the only time he scored fewer than 11 points in a World Final between 1966 and 1979. What a record!

Sad to say that it’s eight years today since Ivan died.
What an inspiration and what a difference he made to the world.
And what incredible memories we’re left with.
With best wishes to Raye, Julie, Kym and their families.

It’s 46 years today since 2 September 1979 when Ivan won his record breaking 6th World Championship.
Perhaps that helps explain the foresight of including the word ‘Plus’ in his first autobiography ‘Triple Crown Plus’.

Possibly this is Abingdon Road in Bramhall, when Ivan was my aunt & uncle Margaret & Phil Waine’s next door neighbour, a fun fact, when they moved in their new lounge furniture was late arriving, so the Mauger family borrowed the Waine’s garden furniture to sit on in their lounge
We hope that all who can will help Ian support a very important cause in Debbie's memory: mothersdayclassic.com.au/fun…
Many thanks to Raye.
Debbie would have been 64 yesterday.
She was a special person from a special family.
She is very sorely missed.
Best wishes to Ian, Skye, Raye, Julie, Kym and her extended family and friends from all of us all over the world.
Brian
I was greatly saddened by Debbie’s death on Saturday and want to add my voice to all those expressing their thoughts and feelings.
