What do you do if you are the Liam Neeson from The Naked Gun? Asking for a friend.
Still my favorite @petersellis quote, when I asked him what it's like to manage @nikitabier "I think of Nikita like Liam Neeson from Taken. If your daughter gets kidnaped, he has a very special set of skills, and he's going to employ those skills. But then when you need him to raise the daughter, or buy some groceries, all he knows how to do is just kill everybody in the grocery store."

We believe voice is the most natural way to interact with intelligence, so we created Dessa, the most authentic full-duplex speech model ever built. Talking with it feels like talking with a person…full of emotion, nuance, pauses, and a natural cadence. block.xyz/dessa

So basically, today PHP got two critical bugs that let anyone run code on your server without even logging in, which is bad, and then the details leaked before the patch was even out, which is worse, and it works on WordPress and MediaWiki and Magento and Joomla and Laravel, and Censys says like 1.5 million servers are running a version with no fix, so the NSA was like "take your system offline," and the FBI was like "take your system offline," and CISA and the UK and CERT-EU were all like "take your system offline," and then the Prime Minister of Japan, the actual Prime Minister, posted at 5:55 in the morning telling 48.8 million people to take their system offline, so everyone took their system offline, like the Dutch cybersecurity agency took its own website offline, and the Dutch parliament went offline, and the Port of Rotterdam went offline, and Finland and France and Denmark started pulling government sites, and Wikipedia went down, and Archive.org went down, and Asana and GOG and Something Awful went down, and the University of Vienna's webmail went down for some reason, and that's just PHP. Because GitLab also dropped a CVSS 10.0, which is the highest score they give out, for a bug that's been there since 2014, so that's every self-hosted GitLab for twelve years, and then LiteLLM 1.107.0 got hijacked and shipped a credential stealer and a remote access trojan in every single wheel and the Docker images, including latest, and you didn't even have to import it, just installing it was enough, and it's the second time this year, and then Railway paused every deployment on the entire platform because someone got into the environment variables, so now everyone has to rotate every secret they've ever stored there, and TiDB Cloud said someone was walking around inside with stolen credentials for basically a month and an extortion group says they took 10.6 terabytes, and Zeabur got breached for the second time in two months and is just shutting down, like the whole company, and Node.js patched remote code execution and a TLS bypass, and CISA says Plex is being actively exploited, and someone took over 300 Tor exit relays to steal SSH passwords, and SafePay ransomware has hit over 600 critical infrastructure orgs, and India's biggest bank filed a data loss incident, and Japan has been in an official state of emergency in cyberspace since October 9, which honestly explains the 5:55 AM post. Oh, and eMudhra, a certificate authority that's issued over 60 million certificates, whose entire job is proving websites are who they say they are, was supposed to be using private keys that are random numbers over a hundred digits long, and one of them was 4. Just 4. And the others were like 66 and 237. Anyway, it's Wednesday.

My whole life I have accepted other people’s crappy UXs. Or imagined a product that was too expensive to make. I customized everything in my house and my camper van to be the way I wanted it. But now it’s time for the tech too. (I can’t throw a designer under the bus for this one though - we know it wasn’t her choice)
Vibe coded my parents' TV this afternoon! It was showing a sponsored ad before you could even get to Netflix. Gave Claude Code the model number, it found the TV on wifi, removed 25 Xiaomi packages and wrote a new launcher. Looks like an Apple TV now lol

Apple doubling down on devices crippled by Siris suckage. I’d take anything over this. A new Google speaker with Gemini, a personal assistant powered by one of the foundation labs new products. Or one powered by a startup like wajo.ai
Introducing Apple HomeView! It recognizes up to six people, connects seamlessly across your Apple devices, and makes managing your home easy with Siri AI. All in a stunning, elegant design with privacy built right in.

I got a lot of great ideas from this post. Turns out I used some of these tactics successfully over the years, but never had a language for them. And I definitely never integrated all of them in a cohesive way. Basically Ryan gave me a language for things that I have done or should be doing. It will be fun figuring out how to adopt some of this for my solo project when I’m ready to start talking about it in a few weeks.
If you want to grow a massive brand, this is for you. Branding is one of the only moats left. Nail this, and it could quite literally change your entire business trajectory. It took me years (and a lot of $$$) to learn this:

RF engineering = witchcraft is 100% correct One time I had an analog engineer look at an open sourced WiFi board that I sent him. He said that it was an RF bomb that he would only keep in his faraday cage. Yes sir, whatever you say.

More Fo personal AI adventures. Trying to buy a dishwasher but people keep hanging up on "the computer" and I guess a human can't call until tomorrow, which is too late. Interesting how it texted me a 10 minute voice recording of the exchange.

I hate to admit this but I would have used this in a coffee shop yesterday. I wonder if it will connect to my own speech to text (Voiceink and Claude) Not available until “sometime in 2027” though.
Can you hear him? He’s whispering a prompt No clunky gooseneck or influencer mic

This is wild. It recognized LA Design week on my calendar and started planning it for me. It even selected an opening for an Altadena Fire based event. I built a pretty sophisticated agent on Claude but I’m looking forward to testing it. Excited how it closes the loop on making phone calls.
I led engineering at Google DeepMind. Today, I'm proud to introduce Fo to give personal AI something no lab ever has... Humans. Other personal AI's pretend AI can do everything. Fo employs humans to do tasks that AI cannot. - 2x better at real-world task completion (beats other agents by 69%) - 94% trust rate (4x less likely to leak private info vs Muse, Instinct) Sign up for free: wajo.ai/join-wajo
