1/12 SALTED EARTH: We are living in the land poisoned by Thatcherism. We have been brought low by a doctrine of “me-first” selfishness and a devil-take-the-hindmost philosophy which, together, hobble any effective action against the huge problems we now face… 🧵 #Max12to1

📢 1/12 ARE WE USING THE WRONG WORDS? What if we talked more of “sharing” and less of “socialism”? What if we spoke more about “fairness” and less about “equality”, and more about “unfairness” instead of “inequality”? What if we relentlessly shamed the rich hoarders? 🧵

📢 1/14 WHY THE MONARCHY HAS TO GO 🧵 A royal family is the apex stone in an archway of privilege and patronage. It sustains class divisions and preserves the money and power of the elite to the detriment of the majority. It normalises and sanctifies #inequality. @RepublicStaff

1/6 NOSTALGIALAND: from #Brexit to the #Oasis reunion, we seem to hanker for the past, believing it to be better than the present. Maybe it’s time we started to practice the gentle art of forgetting and focus on our precarious present and future instead? 🧵 @Max12to1

📢 1/14 FOOTBALL IS KEY TO DEFEATING THE FAR-RIGHT: Ahead of the new season, some personal reflections on how football, especially grassroots football, has improved race relations in the UK and how it continues to undermine support for the far-right. @Max12to1

📢 AN A-Z OF HOW BRITAIN CAME TO DESPISE THE #TORIES. As we head to the polls this Thursday, here’s a handy alpha-list of reminders of why we should all vote the #Tories out. Please share widely. Thank You! #VoteTactically #GTTO @Max12to1 🧵

📢 1/10 GREEN POLITICS IS MISERABLE AND SO IT FAILS: We are in a #climate emergency and time is running out. But there is no mass movement calling for change and no sweeping Green victories at the polls. Why is this? Some thoughts... 🧵 @Max12to1

1/8 THE END OF THE GREAT PRIVATISATION SCAM: Dreamt up by so-called “free-market” economists, privatisation merely created private monopolies that serve rapacious shareholders at the expense of the public. But the tide is now turning… 🧵 @Max12to1

1/6 ON FLAGS ETC... 🧵 The political right are keen on flags, monarchy and other symbols because they wish to forge 'vertical unity' from the richest elites down to the poorest classes and thereby preserve the wealth and power of that ruling elite. @Max12to1

1/8 WOKE CAPITALISM: THE GOOD & THE BAD: Right-wing commentators may bemoan “woke capitalism” but they also completely fail to understand it. It is not some “woke elite” that’s leading capitalism astray, it is just that “woke” is now profitable. #Max12to1

1/18 THOUGHTS on (1) why we should promote co-operation as THE fundamental organizing principle for society, rather than the divisive, dead-end of competition, and (2) what we can do about it in the UK. #Max12to1 @CooperativesUK @UKLabour @TheGreenParty @CoopParty @LibDems🧵

1/16 SOME THOUGHTS… There are largely settled and enduring conservative views among an electorally viable proportion (around 40%) of the UK voting population across a range of key social and political issues, enough to deliver repeated general election wins. #Max12to1
