"So the first Gresley Pacific design never proceeded beyond the paper stage. For the sake of Gresley's reputation, this is probably just as well, for the curious combination of Ivatt with Churchward was very unlikely to have achieved the outstanding success" - Cecil J. Allen

Between 1966 & 1967, rumours of a runaway consist spread throughout the Western Region of British Railways. While many tried, only one person successfully caught and photographed this "Mystery Train" rushing through Longport Station on October 4th, 1966. (๐Ÿ“ธErnest Kearney)
Ex-MR 700 2765 (later NWR 13) outside of Vicarstown Loco Depot, September 1923. 2765 arrived in 1920 but didn't enter in 1922 because its frames needed patching; the patch job didn't last long, and the loco was scrapped in 1924. (๐Ÿ“ธMorton Beckett)

The problem with making a fictional express engine is that 90% of the time you'll have to find a naming scheme for the class eventually Like, cool bro, you made your engine. Now do you want to copy the GWR bar for bar? Or do you want to risk one of the engines being named this?

Fun fact: I've been sitting on this one since June because I wasn't sure if I could get away with making yet another joke about how a face would look on Stephenson's Rocket pre-rebuild I later decided that I could, in fact, get away with doing it again

Anyways stay tuned for when I repost that image of the Big Boy and Jinty again when the never-ending E2 discourse shitpit inevitably loops around to overexaggerating its size like it always does

A photo of the original NWR's No.7 (c.1923). Despite having the Furness branding removed and its new number applied, it still retained its original Indian Red livery until its next overhaul in 1925, when the loco was finally repainted into proper NWR colors.

Ok, so how predictable would it be for my next set of stories to be about Thomas? Actually, don't even answer that, because that's exactly what the next set of stories is going to be about.

Ngl, that random worker at Southampton had some high hopes thinking someone would've wanted to buy one of the E2s, let alone two of them (me, I would've been that someone)
saddens me deeply cause there were supposed plans to preserve the E2's but there had been lack of dedication (104 & 109)
