Our recent work describes the evidence for #PGx-guided pain management to improve pain control and reducing opioid misuse. We also provide a “how to” guide to demystify the process.

The idea to write this paper started with a discussion in the @pkpdpg PRN
Optimizing pain management through genotype-guided approaches may ultimately provide safer and more effective therapy for pain control while decreasing the risk for opioid misuse. buff.ly/3z59tMx @MaxPGx @roseanngammal @jim_omics @UFPersonalMed @UFPharmacy

Congrats to @MaxPGx who received the “Excellence in Advancing Pharmacogenomics Through Collaboration” award from @AmSocietyPharm! The award honors leaders for driving #PGx advancements by fostering collaboration across disciplines/organizations/sectors. pharmacytimes.com/view/strip…
New clinical trial results! Ribociclib is used to treat certain breast cancers. We knew CYP3A inhibitors increase ribo levels by 3-fold. But does CYP3A5 genotype predict ribociclib levels? In short, no.
A reassuring result for patients and clinicians.

The LEANORA study: PKs and pharmacogenomics of ribociclib in Black patients with breast cancer.
🔑No association between CYP3A5 and ribociclib exposure (= no need for dose adjustments).
Thank you, @ConquerCancerFd and @BCRFcure, for making this possible!

.@MaxPGx and colleagues assessed appraoches to pre-chemotherapy testing for dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase deficiency (DPYD) in the US. Their take-away? Routine DPYD testing requires coordinated healthcare team effort. doi.org/10.1007/s00520-024-0… @MedStarResearch @MASCC_JSCC
Happy to present these data today and work with a great team @IlanaSchlam @SandraSwainMD @GeorgetownCPC
Excited to share the findings of the LEANORA trial, thank you @ConquerCancerFd and @BCRF for supporting this study!

Oncologists are interested in #Pharmacogenomics and believe it can improve cancer care! Read more in this Future Medicine (@futuresciencegp) paper from Beth Peshkin, @schwartm, @NadiaAshai, @SandraSwainMD, @MaxPGx, and colleagues. doi.org/10.2217/pgs-2023-016… @MedStarResearch #PGx
We asked oncology providers in our health system about PGx. It is important to stratify based on whether they typically prescribe that drug (figure).
Providers with previous PGx education were more likely to have ordered a test (OR: 7.9; 95% CI: 1.1–56)

Happy to contribute to this work where we call upon the FDA to align with Europe in recommending DPYD testing and genotype-based dose adjustment to ensure patients with cancer receive safe and effective fluoropyrimidine chemotherapy

CDS is called for as critical to #pgx implementations. But what CDS strategies are effective?
We conducted a scoping review to identify what the literature says. Published in this month's issue of CPT @ASCPTjournals.

A great article for anyone wondering how to counsel patients on PGx testing or how others do it.
New #research from ACCP PK/PD/PG PRN members Teresa Ho, @roseanngammal, and @DunnenbergerPGX addresses the important topic of effective patient counseling approaches when communicating panel-based #pharmacogenetics results. Full article available at: academic.oup.com/ajhp/advanc…

#Pharmacogenomics is the study of how genes affect medication responses. This knowledge can help clinicians make better decisions. @MaxPGx of @MedStarResearch and colleagues from @NorthShoreWeb published a review of #PGx clinical decision support tools. doi.org/10.1002/cpt.2711
Electronic clinical decision support (CDS) is commonly called for in #PGx implementations. We conducted a scoping review on the current state. Most literature was on interruptive alerts but had a wide variability in response @DunnenbergerPGX @ASCPTjournals
