VIBE SHIFT WITH BRENDAN O'NEILL🚨
📅28/10/26 📍LEEDS
#BattleFest doesn't stop just because our London event has.
In Leeds, Brendan O’Neill will argue that ‘a seismic turn in the moral zeitgeist brought about by popular discontent with the old, knackered order’, is emerging.
But is O’Neill right? Or does he exaggerate or romanticise what often appear disparate protests around a range of unconnected issues. There’s now even a backlash against the backlash.

@acadofideas is not kidding when they say there are many debates to choose from! At the Battle of Ideas this year, I attended sessions on: surrogacy, Equality Act reform, the puberty blocker trial, institutional accountability, the meaning of tolerance, the conversion practices bill, and autonomy in the context of technological progress. I missed dozens of panels I wish I could have seen! Check out the link below to read speaker’s opening statements on everything from AI to Israel 👇
One of the great things about #battlefest is that there are so many debates to choose from. The downside is you can't see everything! Thankfully, many of our speakers have now published their speeches or articles discussing their sessions. Click below for a round-up 👇

Muuttaako tekoäly kaiken? Lisääkö se vapauttamme vai tuleeko siitä uusi väline, jolla meitä hallitaan? Mihin vedämme rajan teknologiavastaisten dystopioiden ja utopistisen innostuksen välille?

Must watch on Conversion Practices draft Bill from the Battle of Ideas. Whatever you think of Phillimore, she was brilliant on this panel #BattleFest #BintheBill
Due to popular demand we've published our first #BattleFest full debate early:

If you don't know what the Conversion Practices bill is about, please please watch this. It purports to ban "abuse" but in fact it will criminalise loving parents seeking to protect unhappy children from lifelong harm. It's extraordinarily serious.

So this has sort of blown up.

It is funny that as Baroness Fox patiently set out a case for the dangers of poorly-socialised young people in Western society, the BBC had an oversized child sat by her to roll its eyes, sigh and interrupt every few seconds.
My attempt at discussing what has driven violent riots & wanton destruction in France (not without interruption). I was also reacting to unhelpfully labelling Kemi Badenoch's mention of challenges of migration y'day, as a Trump-like dog whistle #PoliticsLive

Trouble in paradise...
Today I made what was meant to be a light-hearted self-deprecating remark. I didn’t get it right and it hasn’t come off as I intended.
I fully support our Home Secretary and the government’s position on migration reform.
As I said earlier this week, it’s absolutely right that people should have to make a contribution to this country in order to earn citizenship.
