I earned a Master's degree from the University of Maryland in 1996. Both my kids went there. UMD has a permanent place in my heart! Saturday, I have the honor of participating in the Terp Author Book Fair. Not only that, I get to present just before the amazing @henakhanbooks

So, a new book is about to be released into the world. The publisher sends out advanced copies to reviewers. It's a little nerve-wracking. Will they love it... or not? Thankfully, School Library Journal has very good things to say about "A Quilt of Stars"!

When you have a talented, creative teenager making posts for you, life is good! Thank you Tessa for another pretty way to share our new book. And, did you see the clever way she used "woven" to highlight this sewing project started in space?

Brookside does an amazing job celebrating Earth Day for the whole family! I'm excited to be there with puppets, books (Fantastic Flora), and crafts for kids of all ages. It's going to be FUN. Check out more here: montgomeryparks.org/events/e… @montgomeryparks @mitkidspress #EarthDay

Me: What surprised you about co-authoring this book? Karen: How long it takes (laughs). I mean, it’s really a process. I was looking back at something—maybe it was an email that we had done. It was two years ago! It’s just a slow process. Me: But worth the wait!

Karen Nyberg's story shares how she gazed at Earth from space and saw no country borders, no hunger, no war or other worldly problems. It's this patchwork of people and places symbolized in star-themed quilts that resonates with me. Thank you for sharing this story, Karen!

One of the best things about being a children's book author is the chance to get into schools. There's something in my DNA about getting in front of kids and engaging with something meaningful. Now booking for "A Quilt of Stars" (Available for pre-orders now)

The life of a writer is a lot about "almost." This year I had a few near misses with my submissions. Sadly, no new contracts, but still, the almosts are encouraging. And, p.s. still working on my middle grade (and still excited about it). But... I can't rush it, right?
