After years of missing embarrassingly optimistic deadlines, my book, Optionality, is finally out in the world! 🚨 50% off during the launch period so get amongst 🚨 This is the best thing I've ever made in my life, by a long shot. Hope you think so too: thedeepdish.org/optionality-…

Adding new vocab to Anki is so insanely smooth these days: 1. Highlight on kindle as I'm reading 2. dump into Chat and it generates translations, removes dupes, and turns it into an anki deck that I can import within 1 minute I love this shit so much

just tried this prompt going around: "From everything you know about me, write a short story with 2000 words tailored exactly to my taste. Think hard." ...it's one of the worst things I've ever read lol chatgpt.com/share/689d4376-c…

I’ve already eaten lab meat, will eat it exclusively as soon as it is widely available and I - as a 41 year old woman - can currently do more pull ups than the average western man
Every post I see in favor of lab grown meat and lab made food in general is never made by a healthy looking person

Aight so ChatGPT 5 is incremental rather than a paradigm shift, but it still cost ~5x more to train than chatgpt 4. If frontier model costs are superlinear and there’s no strong moat, surely commodification is inevitable?? That would be great for consumers but I don’t understand what investors are thinking here. If there’s no big discontinuous breakthrough, what’s left? only thing I can think of is they’re betting on oligopoly/cronyism/platform lock-in kinda dynamics, which is not very inspiring 🧐

this has always been wrong - but now categorically wrong in the era of RL on verifiable domains models are truth seeking and even interact with a hard outside world via tool use

Japanese toilets often have an exhortation about cleanliness but this one is the hardest I’ve ever seen. <Japanese>A soiled toilet reflects the filth of your soul.</Japanese> <English>Keep Clean This Restroom</English>

There's this unfortunate thing where a lot of the most exciting ideas from EA just don't stick with people at all. EA as a movement has probably prevented a major war's worth of human deaths, but people just brush off malaria stats. Yet the shrimp stuff gets attention.
I have to be honest, even if it gets me cancelled: nothing has turned me against the effective altruist crowd more than "shrimp welfare."

honoured to have one of the great poasters of our generation join us for book club 🫡
I went on a literary podcast recently where we discussed Jonathan Safran Foer’s Everything is Illuminated in the context of many things, including its potentially having inspired the classic film, Borat. Hegelian E Girls also mentioned. Why read fiction? Etc etc Link below>
