Trump, "I've kept every single promise I made" Trump, "No new wars" Trump, "We're (only) in our 7th month (of war)" My view: Trump claims he's kept “every single promise” he made. One of those promises was “No new wars”. Yet seven months into the war with Iran, he dismisses it by saying, “I haven't had much of a war.” Vietnam and Afghanistan lasted far longer, but the Iran war has caused a much more global economic shock. Disruption to the Strait of Hormuz has sent energy prices soaring, driven inflation and disrupted international trade. In just six months, fossil-fuel importers faced an estimated $330 BILLION in additional costs. The economic consequences have reached households and businesses across the planet. A war doesn't have to last decades to cause worldwide devastation. Its impact cannot be measured simply by how long it lasts. It's affected us here in the UK, just as it's affected Americans in the US: higher petrol and gas prices, rising food costs, more expensive transport, increased energy bills and inflationary pressures across the economy. Businesses face higher operating costs, which are inevitably passed on to consumers, while households already struggling with the cost of living are being squeezed even further. The disruption to global energy supplies and international shipping has consequences far beyond the Middle East. Trump may dismiss it as a relatively short war, but its economic impact is being felt by billions of people worldwide. A war doesn't have to last decades to cause enormous damage.
