How prepared is the media 2 livestream polling station results or constituency results? or are they awaiting to plug in in the "BOMAS" charade system 2 broadcast to us nonsense! Lazy journalism is an assault on freedom of media. @KenyaEditors @MediaCouncilK
MY STATEMENT ON THE NEED FOR A LIVESTREAMING PROTOCOL FOR THE 2027 GENERAL ELECTION
The Ministry of Information, the Media Council of Kenya, political parties and the IEBC must convene a meeting at the earliest opportunity to establish a clear, binding and transparent livestreaming protocol for the 2027 General Election.
The 2022 experience at Bomas of Kenya showed how interruptions in the live communication of election results can fuel suspicion, erode public trust and heighten political tensions. Kenya must not repeat this mistake.
The meeting must deliver enforceable rules guaranteeing public access to electoral information, transparent explanations for any livestreaming disruptions and clear contingency measures for technical failures.
National security must never be used as a blanket excuse to suppress legitimate journalism or deny Kenyans information of public interest. Any restriction must be lawful, necessary and proportionate.
The time to act is now, not when tensions are already high. Kenyans deserve transparency, accountability and timely access to election information.
No information vacuum. No arbitrary interruptions. No compromise on electoral transparency.

Putting communities at the centre of the story.
A proposed journalism grant will support reporters in Meru and Isiolo to investigate community experiences, document economic transformation and access verified project information. Specialised training will strengthen conflict-sensitive reporting. 2/3

The Association of Media Women in Kenya is participating in a strategic retreat on election reporting, results transparency, and information integrity for the 2027 General Elections alongside the @IEBCKenya and members of the Kenya Media Sector Working Group (KMSWG).
The engagement is a fulfillment of the Media and IEBC Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in March 2026. The MoU seeks to enhance direct access to verifiable electoral information, build the capacity of journalists in election reporting, and proactively counter digital threats, deepfakes, and political misinformation.
This framework matters because establishing clear rules of engagement and transparent channels between the electoral commission and media houses safeguards democratic integrity.
Ultimately, the media’s role in elections is key in serving as a trusted bridge to the public, verifying real-time data, ensuring fair, gender-sensitive, and ethical coverage, and holding institutions accountable to secure a credible, peaceful 2027 poll. #2027GE
