For those who don't fully understand what is up with the NHS, here is a thread for you that might help. I'm a consultant physician working as a doctor in the NHS in Yorkshire and Wales for 32 years now. I have experienced the NHS at its best (2008) and its worst (2022).

In Ch. 21 of this edited volume we look at how medical professionalism has changed over the past 30 years in light of [i] #posttruth politics & #populism and [ii] greater managerialism #medicalleadership @_HSMCentre @simonmoralee @AllianceMBS @MBSHealthMgt
From work started in 2018, great to see this comparative chapter on changes to medical professionalism (with Prof Mark Exworthy @_HSMCentre) published in 'Lawyers in 21st-Century Societies - Vol. 2: Comparisons and Theories' bloomsburycollections.com/bo… #medicalleadership

This is a thread worth its weight in gold in terms of deeply embedded inter-medical professional attitudes to specialties: certain hospital specialties > psychiatry > elderly medicine > GP. This really has to stop - all medical specialties play their part.
“Just a GP” In med school - “half of you will end up being just a GP” In training - “why just be a GP? what a waste! You could go far!” Member of public - “are you a real dr or just a GP?” It’s demoralising that our role is so poorly understood Yes I am a GP NOT “just a GP”
