Howard says he offered to put up $1,000,000 from his own fee so Downey could get the part. Before the sequel, Marvel came back with $1,000,000 instead of $8,000,000. His agent hung up on them. The role went to Don Cheadle. Howard says he called Downey 27 times asking for the same help he once gave him, and didn't hear back for 3 years. Marvel and Downey have never confirmed his version.
