Elle Fanning once lost a role because she didn’t have enough Instagram followers and Jenna Ortega says the same thing happened to her, even after WEDNESDAY
During their conversation, the actresses revealed how Hollywood has increasingly treated social media following as part of the casting process
Fanning recalled being rejected after an audition because her follower count wasn’t high enough
Ortega also explained that during her Disney days, young actors were given media training that included instructions on how often to post, how to increase engagement and how to build their online following
She even said that after the success of Wednesday, people still approached her team questioning whether she had enough of a platform or recognizable name
Imagine being told you’re great for a role, only to lose it because your follower count isn’t impressive enough
