Planetary history is not a sequence of sudden emergencies, but an orderly progression where life readjusts itself to the rhythms of the solar system. Changes over geological history are always slow, measured and endless. Over millions of years, subtle shifts in Earth’s orbit, axial tilt and precession - the Milankovitch cycles - lock the global climate into regular, repeating rhythms. These orbital variations dictate the pacing of ice ages and interglacials, setting the solar baseline for everything that happens on the surface. Attributing the modern observed temperature increase of 1.1°C to 1.4°C since the pre-industrial period exclusively to a trace gas overlooks the powerful array of natural climate drivers. Current average global temperatures (estimated at around 15°C) reflect a global recovery from the 500-year Little Ice Age (1300–1850). This is not an emergency. In truth, the Earth is significantly cooler than the global average of 24°C throughout the last 540 million years of biological history. Far from being fragile, life has continued to evolve alongside this astronomical heartbeat. Ecosystems have spent hundreds of millions of years adapting to these predictable, large-scale shifts. Atmospheric CO₂ is not a danger for life; it is the driver of photosynthesis, primary plant productivity and oxygen regeneration. Plant and animal species did not rely on static temperatures either; they flourished through resilience, migration and expansion as the planet drifted between cold glaciations and warm interglacials. Life on land has survived at least five major extinction events; but life always recovers from these setbacks and new species emerge. Viewed through this dual lens - orbital regularity above and biological adaptability below - the Earth’s natural stability comes into clear focus.
