Dear @FIFAWorldCup It is my personal opinion that this is horrific and disgusting and I urge @FIFAcom to step in, step up and contact the Moroccan Govt and tell them to stop what is being reported as happening all over Morocco in preparation for the World Cup.
Blood splattered across the streets, spent shell casings were scattered in the grass, and armed men were piling into vehicles. That is the horrifying scene unfolding in the Moroccan city of Nador, where officials are accused of carrying out mass killings of stray dogs ahead of the 2030 World Cup. An estimated three million stray dogs live on Morocco's streets. The International Animal Welfare Protection Coalition (IAWPC) shared several shocking images with the Daily Mail, claiming preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup are being stained by scenes of 'unbearable violence.' 'Shocking eyewitness testimony describes how local authorities descended on a residential neighborhood at around 6.30am this week, opening fire on defenceless animals in what has been branded a "display of pure savagery,"' an IAWPC spokesperson told the Daily Mail. The female witness, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, claimed she watched the horror unfold from her window. She added that there were two shootings reported this week, one on Tuesday and another on Thursday. 'I am writing with a heavy heart and still in shock,' they said in a statement to IAWPC. This was not a culling operation, but a display of pure savagery. Dogs were shot in cold blood beneath our windows, leaving behind scenes of unbearable violence and streets stained with blood.' A FIFA spokesperson previously told the Daily Mail that during its bid for the 2030 World Cup, Morocco emphasized its commitment to animal welfare, citing government efforts to expand clinics and support programs for stray dogs.

21 whales died in SF Bay in one year. We need to pull the plug on the Alaskan trawling fleet immediately. Addressing the loss of sea ice will take decades, but we can stop shredding their feeding grounds today. We are starving whales to death for fish sticks and imitation crab.

•The U.S. Senate may hold a floor vote TODAY which would overturn a 20-year moratorium on sulfide-ore copper mining on 225,000 acres of Superior National Forest land in the watershed of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA) Wilderness in northern Minnesota. The Boundary Waters is the most visited Wilderness in the United States.  🛶 Enjoying the Minnesotan/Canadian wilderness by canoe or other lesser watercraft is one of our nations greatest available pastimes, and one I have personally enjoyed my entire life. We must protect these public lands from the rapacious capitalists threatening to turn them into a poisoned wasteland. •This vote in Congress would open the door to copper mining at the headwaters of this entire ecosystem. This kind of mining produces toxic pollution, including acid runoff and heavy metals, that can contaminate nearby waters. •The Boundary Waters supports a major outdoor economy that sustains thousands of jobs and generates over a billion dollars a year - built on clean water and intact public lands. But this vote would clear the way for toxic mining that puts all of that at risk. It would also set a dangerous precedent, making it easier to roll back protections for public lands across the country, including wilderness areas, national monuments, and national parks.  •This is a defining moment. If you care about clean water, public lands, and protecting places we can’t replace, now is the time to speak up. •Protect the Boundary Waters, and vote NO on House Joint Resolution 140. Let’s save this treasured place for all of us—forever. on.nrdc.org/4csRkwi

Our cold front last night dropped quite a bit more rain theb many forecasted but luckily I nailed this one with LA county and northern IE seeing over 1/2" of rain in many spots. Amouts were .10-.25" elsewhere. An inch of snow fell at top of Big Bear resorts with more above 9000ft. Not bad for an April storm abd the 1st rain we've seen in a month! #CAwx #Rain #Snow #Weather #BigBear #LosAngeles

People used to put their ALL into even seemingly inconsequential stuff. "Oh its a jingle for a kids cartoon about fake animals that probably wont even be seen by anyone? Better LOCK TF IN"
Jason Paige recorded the Pokémon theme song in a single take, unaware it would go on to become one of the most iconic intros of all time.

I worked at Epic Games for two years. This is real, and the strategy behind it is smarter than most people realize. Tim Sweeney has spent nearly two decades buying North Carolina forest land. 50,000+ acres across 15 counties. He’s now one of the largest private landowners in the state. The purchases started in 2008, right after the real estate collapse wiped out developers who had been planning golf resorts and luxury communities on biodiverse wilderness. Sweeney paid $15 million for Box Creek Wilderness, a 7,000-acre stretch in the Blue Ridge foothills containing 130+ rare and threatened species. Developers had owned 5,000 of those acres before the crash. He bought them for conservation prices when nobody else was bidding. He runs the acquisitions through an LLC called “130 of Chatham.” He buys the land, holds it for years, then either donates it to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, sells it at a discount to state parks, or hands it to land trusts. In 2021, he donated 7,500 acres in the Roan Highlands to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy. Largest private land donation in North Carolina history. The part people miss: he told the News & Observer that since 2021, land got too expensive to keep buying. So he shifted focus to converting his existing 50,000 acres into permanent conservation status. He’s locking the land into legal structures that make development impossible regardless of who owns it in the future. A billionaire worth roughly $6 billion is spending tens of millions acquiring wilderness specifically during economic downturns, then giving it away or placing it under permanent legal protection. The land will outlast him, Epic Games, and Fortnite. That’s the part that separates Sweeney from billionaires who write checks to get their name on a building. The building depreciates. The forest compounds.
