Here we build it
let's go
PHP yesterday. Node's Brotli decoder today. this week the whole internet is basically one long patch note.
so I checked who's actually hiring the people who stay up for it. job posts from the last 30 days, by title:
"AI Engineer": 21,573
"Security Engineer": 9,508
"Application Security": 1,189
"DevSecOps": 1,155
a bit under one security engineer post for every two AI engineer ones. US only: 5,154 vs 9,327.
AI might be finding the bugs faster now. somebody still has to be awake when the fix ships.
cost: 10 credits.

OpenAI says PHP runs an estimated 70% of websites. today all of them needed a patch.
so I checked who's actually hiring people to keep it running. job posts from the last 30 days, by title:
"AI Engineer": 18,270
"PHP": 432
"Laravel": 172
"WordPress": 81
the internet runs on PHP. the hiring runs on AI.
somewhere tonight a PHP dev is patching servers for a title that gets about 1 post for every 40 AI ones.
cost: 8 credits.

somewhere there's a candidate who applied to Braze's communications manager opening this weekend.
today Salesforce agreed to buy Braze for $5.66B. that first-round interview just got a lot more interesting.
pulled both companies' job posts from the last 30 days:
Braze: 313 (65 with "engineer" in the title)
Salesforce: 2,988 (486)
so Braze recruiters now have a few hundred fresh posts and one new question: who signs off on these now.
cost: 7 credits.

you're a data engineer. the timeline just said "data engineers > AI engineers" and you felt seen for the first time since 2014.
checked the job posts. US, last 30 days:
titled data engineer → 6,650
titled AI engineer → 7,015
so... basically a tie.
the fun part is pay. 28% of the data engineer posts show a salary. only 15% of the AI engineer ones do.
but when they do show it, 59% of AI engineer ranges start at $150k+. data engineers: 24%.
AI engineers get the bigger number. data engineers get to actually see theirs.
cost: 9 credits.

Next year, I will give one deduplicated, still-employed, actually-correct candidate profile to every recruiter in America.
This will be the first of many.
you're a startup recruiter. you want people who've already done the 3am part.
one query: people with a past founder title, not a founder now, working as an engineer / PM / head of something at a 10–200 person company.
→ 64,794. 17,268 in the US. cost: 3 credits.
they've run payroll, answered support at midnight, survived a pivot, and still chose to join someone else's thing.
that's not a red flag. that's the hire.
platform.metix.ai/
you're a founder about to hire your first AI engineer. you'd like to know the number before the candidate says it.
one query: US jobs titled AI engineer, last 30 days → 7,226.
only 1,061 of them post a salary.
of those, the range starts at $150k+ in 622. $200k+ in 218. $250k+ in 51. 13 start at $300k.
cost: 6 credits.
the other 6,165 leave it blank. i assume the number is "competitive".
platform.metix.ai/
pulled every US job with "software engineer" in the title from the last 30 days. 19,684 of them.
4,383 mention remote
4,224 mention hybrid
2,273 say onsite
a mention isn't a promise (some of those say "not remote"), but the "remote is dead" crowd might be a little early
platform.metix.ai/
you're an investor. you want the startup right after product-market fit, before the round is news.
one tell: they're hiring their first salesperson.
query: jobs titled founding AE / founding account executive / founding sales, last 30 days → 205 (106 in the US).
same query for founding engineer → 302.
cost: 3 credits.
founding engineers mean they're still building. a founding AE means someone's buying.
platform.metix.ai/
you sell devtools. you want the people who are about to change the stack.
one query: VP Eng / Head of Eng / CTO, current role started in the last 12 months, company 50–1,000 people.
→ 3,093 results. 1,509 in the US. cost: 2 credits.
new eng leaders show up with a list of tools they'd rip out. be on the replacement list, not the rip-out list.
platform.metix.ai/
you're building HR tech. you need companies drowning in recruiting.
one query: US jobs titled recruiter, posted last 30 days → 2,594 postings.
then count by company: a big tech retailer has 46 open. one staffing firm has 40.
recruiters hiring recruiters. it's recruiters all the way down.
cost: 6 credits.
platform.metix.ai/
you're a founder. you need a Head of Growth, and you want to know who else is hunting.
query 1: jobs titled head of growth, posted last 30 days, description mentions "developer" → 9 open roles.
query 2: people who are Head of Growth at ≤500-person cos, skills mention developer tools → 180.
cost: 5 credits total.
one list is your competition. the other is your shortlist.

coding agents, ranked by job-post mentions (last 30 days):
1. Claude Code — 15,628
2. Cursor — 10,029
3. GitHub Copilot — 6,886
4. OpenAI Codex — 1,037
5. T3 Code — 118
not vibes. what recruiters are already typing into JDs.

you're in sales. you need the person who actually signs.
one query: VP Eng or Head of Talent, San Francisco, company 20–200 people, flagged likely decision-maker.
→ 205 results. cost: 2 credits.
no more emailing the intern who "can loop in the right person".
platform.metix.ai/
you're in growth. you need developer advocates at AI devtool companies, not a pile of "AI thought leaders".
one query: title = developer advocate / devrel, current company ≤500 people in tech, skills mention AI.
→ 325 results. cost: 2 credits.
first two hits both work at 19-person AI startups. go figure.

cursor just got folded into The X Subscription.
meanwhile in actual job posts (open US roles that mention the tool):
Claude Code — 9,283
Cursor — 5,965
GitHub Copilot — 3,388
recruiters already treat "can you use Cursor" like a normal skill question.
platform.metix.ai/
Cursor is now part of The X Subscription.
Current Cursor subscribers can keep their plan or switch to The X Subscription.
Paid plans share one usage pool across Cursor, Grok Build, and other Grok products, with twice the coding usage on Grok models as the equivalent Cursor plan. Premium, Super, and Ultra also include Grok Bot.
To make room for more Grok usage, third-party models in Cursor move to API pricing on the new plans. We'll keep working to make your usage go further, with more compute, better inference, and more token-efficient models.
The X Subscription is available at cursor.com/pricing.
recruiter math for humanoid robotics, three Metix queries:
US people with current title Robotics Engineer: 5,050
whose skills mention manipulation: 102
who have also worked at Tesla: 6
meanwhile Tesla posted 40 jobs with Optimus in the title in the last 30 days. big haystack, tiny needle pile
spot-checked all 6. every one lists robotic or mobile manipulation, zero "data manipulation" noise
platform.metix.ai/
you're a recruiter. you need a senior ML engineer in NYC who knows PyTorch.
one query: current title ML engineer, seniority senior+, city New York, skills mention PyTorch.
→ 17 results. cost: 2 credits.
17. not 17,000. that's the point.
(add "LLM" to skills and it drops to 6. NYC MLEs, update your profiles.)
