We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delays you had encountered.
Please be advised that we strive every day to operate on time and we understand how delays can have negative impacts on our riders. However, delays can happen for a variety of reasons, some of which are even out of Metra's control. When a delay occurs, either Metra or its freight partners work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible to get our riders to their destinations.

Should there be changes in platform procedures, announcements will be made every 5 min, 15 min before departure time. Please bear in mind that Union Pacific is a contracted carrier who owns the rail lines that our trains operate on and when there is a track change, operators at Union Pacific dispatch will provide us with the information, and we are then able to provide that for our passengers. Unfortunately, there may be times that UP dispatch does not get us the information for us to provide.
Please allow extra travel time when arriving at your departure station.
We apologize for the inconvenience and we thank you for your patience and understanding.

We thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.
Finding your way should be simple.
This summer, Metra installed the first elements of its new systemwide wayfinding program at the Edgebrook Station along the Milwaukee District North rail line, creating a real-world pilot for the next generation of station signage. The installation is part of a broader effort to replace and add more than 20,000 signs across the system network, improving accessibility, readability, and travel guidance for customers.
The new signs are designed to help riders move through stations more confidently, whether they're identifying platforms, locating accessibility features, finding customer information, or navigating safely to their destination. The Edgebrook pilot allows Metra to evaluate the new standards before expanding them across the system in the years ahead.
By investing in clearer, more consistent wayfinding, we're making every trip easier to navigate while strengthening the Metra experience for current and future riders.

Thank you for celebrating with us!
I recently joined @Metra officials in a press conference to celebrate their new battery-powered trains. As the company begins replacing its diesel-fueled trains with new, zero-emission electric train cars, our communities will enjoy quieter rides, cleaner air, and more sustainable transit.
Here’s to the future of transit!

We apologize for the inconvenience caused this morning as Union Pacific West inbound trains may operated with a 30 minute delay due to freight train interference.
Please be advised that, Chicago is one of the busiest train hubs in the country for both freight and commuter rail. Though the scheduling of trains through Chicagoland favors commuter rail, unexpected issues can result in freight trains blocking the passage of Metra trains. Freight train interference can be a consequence of a timing issue, a mechanical failure on the freight train, or some other incident where the freight is blocking tracks or switches.
When a freight train is blocking Metra train movement, freight railroad dispatchers notify Metra dispatchers of the issue. Metra dispatchers then communicate the delay to necessary Metra personnel, both on board and offsite. Delay lengths are usually unknown in these situations since the resolution of any issues on the freight train are the responsibility of employees of that freight company.
Freight train interference is most prevalent on lines where there are frequent crossings or shared tracks with freight. These lines include the BNSF, UP-West, SouthWest Service, Heritage Corridor and Milwaukee District lines. The increased freight traffic on or crossing these lines result in higher instances of freight train interference.
We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Metra Service Stars ⭐
Sometimes the most important part of the job goes far beyond onboard safety.
We're recognizing the onboard crew of Rock Island Train 402, Michael Hensley, Anthony Bruce and Michael Wellner, for their compassion and professionalism when they encountered a young person in crisis near Auburn Gresham Station.
After noticing the individual on the tracks, the crew quickly responded, helping the person to safety, remaining with them, and treating them with dignity and kindness while waiting for first responders to arrive.
Multiple customers took the time to commend the crew, noting how calmly and respectfully they handled an incredibly difficult situation.
Thank you, Michael, Anthony and Michael, for demonstrating the care, compassion, empathy and dedication that define excellent customer service and embody Metra's commitment to serving our communities.
