.@JohnRhys_Davies @DomsWildThings @BillyBoydActor @elijahwood @SeanAstin if you happen to still be in NOLA tomorrow and want to learn something cool about space, I'm giving some talks on "dwarf" galaxies, which seems relevant to your interests!
I think this might be my last post on here, but at least I'll go out doing what I love: yelling into the void about how academic institutions need to change
Astronomers call on the @IAU_org and other institutions to rename galaxies and facilities bearing the name of Ferdinand Magellan, a colonial explorer who enslaved and murdered Indigenous people. Read more in this Opinion by @MiaDoesAstro. physics.aps.org/articles/v16…
i was getting real anxious about teaching my first class (as an astronomy professor!!! holy shit!!!) tomorrow, but now i am not bc of this (astronomy themed!!!) @Tomycardy song youtube.com/watch?v=EuRjmzz6…
sry for not posting a lot here but twitter is dying and anyway it turns out my version of professor life is pretty boring so far
my friends messaging me: omg how's professor life treating you? are you excited??
me, eating chili oil cucumbers at 10:30pm while trying to avoid thinking about course prep: uhhhhh
10 years ago, I gave my first astro research talk as a baby summer student at @stsci. Today, I gave a talk wearing the exact same outfit, because despite my best efforts I have not grown a single inch since then 😭
Replying to @MiaDoesAstro
@MiaDoesAstro just gave a great talk about DIVE Survey, advocating for IFU surveys to connect resolved and integrated regime #northeast_dwarfs
please tell me someone has written a fake marriage friends-to-lovers romance where two best friends decide to get married so a university will spousal hire them
this Barbie-themed poster by @kennethmleo may be the greatest research poster I've ever seen??? (his profile pic in the top right even has the "he's Ken." tagline from the Barbie movie poster, @Mattel hire this man immediately)

ALT Photo of a Filipino man standing next to a research poster titled "Paths formed by a noisy ant pheromone trail model." The poster is white with pink text, and all the plots and diagrams are colored in shades of pink and baby blue. The title is in the Barbie font. In the top right, photos of the presenter and his advisor are in pink sunbursts (like the Barbie movie meme).
in entirely related news, there are SO many talented students at @samahangpisika! the future of physics in the Philippines is so bright
I think a lot of career panels would be improved if more panelists didn't try to provide universal advice by extrapolating from their very specific personal experiences
AFAIK, I'm the first Filipina astronomy prof in the US. so it feels very fitting that I'm giving my first conference talk as a prof (and my first as an invited speaker!) in 2 days at a national Filipino physics conference. maraming salamat @samahangpisika for the honor!
