pleasure to attend a public safety roundtable at the Parliament of Canada to discuss the security threats posed by foreign governments and terrorist organizations, including the IRGC, Hamas, and Kataib Hezbollah, as well as efforts to combat foreign interference and influence in Canada. MP Antony Housefather, @AHousefather Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience, chaired the roundtable, which was attended by MP Vince Gasparro, @vgasparro MP Marilyn Gladu @MarilynGladuSL , and representatives from the Jewish and Iranian Canadian communities and human rights groups such as @Tafsikorg and @ICHRCanada We discussed the protection of places of worship, such as Jewish synagogues, which are under attack, addressing antisemitism and hate crimes by police officers properly, identifying foreign agents in Canada, etc. We also discussed the implications of Canada’s listing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist entity, particularly the unintended negative consequences for Iranian conscripts who have been compelled to serve in the IRGC. This issue requires urgent government attention to ensure affected individuals are treated fairly and that appropriate measures address their circumstances. These important discussions underscore the need for continued collaboration to protect Canada’s national security, strengthen community safety, counter foreign interference, and ensure that policies are implemented in a way that addresses unintended consequences for innocent individuals. .
