"A kakistocracy is a system of government run by the worst, least qualified, most unscrupulous, or most incompetent people."

Quote of the day:
“There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”
— John Adams
Indeed.
Misguided inner boasting or oflatingr will break a man, yet true inward might or megin lets him cleave the impossible.
The Norns will not spin your thread with favor if you give them little to work with, your heart must blaze so fiercely that the darkness cannot ignore it. Those about you do not withhold trust out of some kind of malice... you must understand that you have not yet proven your worth. The folk judge a person by their deeds, for a man is what he does, not what he says or even what he thinks.
Neither is your own mind or hugr a fool. It will know you as a liar if you have broken every oath you swore upon your own honor. This you must tend to first by honoring all of your oaths. Especially those made to yourself.
Then guard yourself against the self sabotage of hollow belief. Trust in your wit and might without bound yet never lie to yourself about facts. Be ruthless and keep your strategy flexible as you move inexorably toward the things you want. When you take up a work, see it to its end; do not scatter ten half formed plans, tasks, or training but finish none. Know well that no man wins the favor of the gods or the prizes of this life if he is unwilling to keep moving his feet.
To climb the mountain while others watch in awe is the epitome of the Heathen hero's journey. It is the embodiment of the Anglo-Saxon Mod ...courage, spirit, ferocity, and resolve... While others wait for permission or an easy path, you embrace the jagged stones, trusting in yourself... you keep your bloodied hands moving ever toward the sky... proving that with heroism and unbroken oaths, a mortal can look the gods in the eyes. There is no greater prize in this life or what comes after.

This paper answers why confident idiots run the world.
Cornell University published a psychological paper that explains every terrible boss, every loud influencer, and every broken corporate hierarchy.
It’s called “Unskilled and Unaware of It.”
they tested participants across logic, grammar, and humor to measure the gap between actual performance and self-perception.
And the results are wild.
participants scoring in the bottom 12th percentile consistently believed they were operating in the 62nd percentile.
they were not lying. they were literally incapable of recognizing their own incompetence.
the paper revealed a brutal paradox:
the exact skills required to master a domain are the exact same skills required to accurately evaluate your own competence in that domain.
if you lack the skill, you inherently lack the cognitive capacity to realize you are failing.
this creates a dangerous systemic loop.
the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. their brain protects them from their own ignorance, allowing them to speak first, demand authority, and never second-guess their decisions.
meanwhile, the actual experts suffer the exact inverse.
top performers in the study consistently underestimated their rank. because a task was easy for them, they falsely assumed it was easy for everyone else.
they hesitate. they obsess over nuance. they assume they have nothing unique to add.
we are biologically wired to confuse confidence with competence.
the loudest person in the room gets promoted, gets funded, and gets the microphone, not because they know what they are doing, but because they are physically incapable of seeing what they don't.
the only defense mechanism is building systems that stop rewarding absolute certainty and start demanding proof of work.
"Peoples from low-trust and no-trust societies from all around the world have been brought in among us without our asking or desire, and ever more of them now staff the very institutions we erected to manage our affairs. And collectively, at every level, all these institutions are turning to control rather than support."
Not only did I play D&D but I was, and still am all these years late, deeply into heavy metal.
Obviously I must have sold my soul to the devil in exchange for dark powers.
In 1985, Newsweek asked a terrifying question about Dungeons & Dragons:
“Kids: The Deadliest Game?” 😱
I’m not kidding.
The September 9 issue devoted an entire page to the growing panic over D&D, complete with allegations of occult influence, sorcery, and even teenage suicide.
And the caption beneath a photograph of kids playing D&D?
“An introduction to Tolkien, or an invitation to sacrilege?”
Holy shit. 😂
Thankfully, Dr. Joyce Brothers offered a little sanity, pointing out that the overwhelming majority of kids playing D&D weren’t committing suicide.
It’s remarkable to look back at what our little hobby was being blamed for.
Who else survived the great D&D Satanic Panic of the 1980s?
Did your parents, teachers, or church ever try to take your dice away?
In the spring of 2025 I spent a few days in the hospital and weighed about 235.
After coming home I realized that I had to make changes, so I joined a gym and started eating differently.
I didn't set a hard goal, just the commitment to lose weight and feel better. I wasn't going to be fanatical about it but take it at a slow and steady pace.
Got on the scale for the first time in months this morning.
I'M AT 189!
It's been almost a decade since I've weighed under 200.
Yes, I'm bragging a little about a personal win.
Seriously.
Replying to @PeterBleksley
@PeterBleksley seems to think the young should go off and die for a country that hates them and if you have any issues with that, you're a disgusting pathetic coward.
Quite a staggering thing to say from someone who has never fought in a war and has no prospect of ever fighting a war, in fact, he himself has never served in the forces and is of a generation that has benefited from the sacrifices of those that came before him and to such a degree that will never be seen by any generation ever again.
You are, frankly, a disgrace.
Just another reason why I'm glad that I moved to South Carolina.
FOUNDER STORY: Jamin McCallum started Palmetto State Armory in February 2008 after leaving accounting, following an Iraq deployment where he took direct hits and suffered a traumatic brain injury. He built the first website sitting in a sandwich shop called Groucho's, started with Magpul P-MAGs and Black Dog .22 mags, and filled orders out of his garage on a 50-acre farm until the house became the warehouse. In summer 2008 he started selling surplus ammo, fall 2008 brought an election-week surge, a mis-shipped box of about 60 buffer tubes sold out the same day at $20 and pushed PSA into AR parts, then into manufacturing, with the first retail store opening around 2010 in Columbia, South Carolina. Today PSA employs more than 2,000 people, with DPMS, H&R, and AAC Ammunition under the JJE Capital family of brands.
Handleit Take: This is what building freedom looks like. Jamin did not wait for permission, he cut out the middle man and put American-made rifles in common use, which is exactly why they are harder to ban later.
