This could be the most forgotten protocol in crypto history
Counterparty put assets and NFTs on Bitcoin in 2014
9 years before Ordinals
No premine
No ICO
People burned ~2,125 BTC into an unspendable address and got ~2.65M $XCP back
Founders got nothing
Robby Dermody, Evan Wagner and Adam Krellenstein built a metaprotocol that lives inside normal Bitcoin transactions
Day one they already had a fully onchain DEX
Bitcoin Core then cut OP_RETURN to 40 bytes so they had to use bare multisig and got blamed for UTXO bloat
Mastercoin raised ~4,740 BTC in a crowdsale
Counterparty just set BTC on fire and kept building
After years quiet, core came back in 2024 with a full rewrite
By 2026 they’re shipping AMM pools and inscription-style metadata on Bitcoin again
Everyone acts like Bitcoin assets started with Ordinals
They didn’t

I wrapped up 2026 as intended, with a wonderful experience on @clctibles for the 'Generations 2026' Auction.
As time elapses in this space, it's been a suprise as to what has become valuable to me. initally, an undefinable quantity of fungibles & unfungible tokens was my pusuit.. yet over the years.. it has shifted into privacy of data, physical art & cryptoart.
This year brought many delights for me - most of which were analog. The face-to-face meeting of older friends & family I've met here, new frens met in person; ultimately the common demonintator between us all is an inherent creative process resulting in the production, curation or collection of physical or cryptoart.
I have genuienly not had a better experience online, over the course of 7 years now collecting art, than I did with @clctibles last week. As I understand, the works were on display at a Bitcoin conference in the Midwest of the US - whilst the Auction itself went down on the site. The platform offered fluid ease of use.. both desktop & mobile navigation seemless (this mattered incredibly as my last/final bids were on my phone walking down 3rd Ave).. & not to mention a convient invoice system. the biggest highlight for me was the speed of delivery from the moment the auction ended, to the works landing in my hands. less than 72 hours is a first for me. thank you @buckethatbtc very much, for the amazing bidding experience & support after the auction!
as for the works.. I said earlier in a post that I had accumulated the most artworks in my entire life this year. this is true. The joy of what artwork reprents for me is not the physicality of the paint on canvas, nor the narrative being portrayed through a motiff - these works; besides being a sensory delight on the eyes - carry the above personal connection - the face-to-face laughs, jokes, and stories of life exchanged between myself & the artist. they hold so much weight within their form that extends beyond the image, narrative & medium the artist themselves exert. for that; I shall continue to collect for as long as I am permitted :)
Myself as an artist; I am learning with some life experience that what I had set out for in life to create; is not neccessarily what I see or want to create at all. I may have some knowledge in a specific lens-based field; but these days I find myself now walking the path of the pursuit of linguistic & written works. as well as digital arts created through manual & LLM assisted generative coding.
as for that; another day. thank you @buckethatbtc for the blissful experience. Tomorrow I hope to receive the final package for the year - & from there continuing to toil & stumble down the aquatic road. the Apollonian & Dionysian tundra that it is.
cheers all - here's to 2027!
Packing up the first print orders. TYSM for the collectors. Plenty of numbered prints left. Order at mnaples.com/prints
