We do realise, donāt we, that the Queue has been deliberately designed this way? That it is eminently possible to handle large crowds in a way that doesnāt involve people standing in the street for 22hrs? That this performative theatre of suffering and mourning is the point? Mmm
People at the back of the line ā now famously known as the Queue ā to pay their respects to the queen will likely be waiting 24 hours, British authorities said Friday. Among those in line was soccer star David Beckham, who said he waited about 12 hours. nyti.ms/3DxHCsL
This diarist is truly putting me & my assumptions about historical priorities into place with his by the by entry about 9 (or ~14?) Thermidorā¦
I simply think all archives should be in Archival Palaces. The AD CĆ“te-d'Or are doing something right! ā at Dijon, France
There are 101 French departments. 100 of them have capital cities/towns that house their departmental archives, rather than villages. And then there is the dĆ©partement de l'ArdĆØche, which has Privasā¦.
I am taking back everything I have ever said about French archives being hard to communicate with. A German archivist just replied to my email asking if they had a particular document by saying they need my full postal address before they ācan deal with my queryā?????
Hi @_austrian could you please tell me how to rebook my flight? It says I canāt do it online because for whatever reason you canāt do that with a return flight after having taken the outbound flight, but how CAN I do it? Iāve been on hold with your service line for half an hour

Huge fan of this diarist listing all the extraordinary events of 1789⦠and putting the revolution in fourth place. Really doing his bit to keep the revolutionary historian humble.
