I’m just going to vent for a moment because it’s hot and I don’t want anyone else to go down this expensive and unjust rabbit hole like I’m currently going down. I have been a loyal customer with @SelectHWarranty for 6 years. I have made several claims and somehow they always deny them with some crazy loophole. Well last week my AC went out. They sent a technician out and 75 dollars later, his report stated the following: air conditioning system after the customer reported the unit had been repeatedly tripping the circuit breaker. #1Verified proper voltage at the disconnect and breaker. #2 Inspected and tested the run capacitor, which tested within manufacturer specifications. #3 the Performed resistance and ground tests on the compressor windings and found the compressor windings are shorted to ground, confirming an internal compressor failure. This is causing the breaker to trip. The key sentence is: "Performed resistance and ground tests on the compressor windings and found the compressor windings are shorted to ground, confirming an internal compressor failure." That means the technician tested the compressor itself and found the internal electrical windings inside the compressor have failed and are contacting ground ("shorted to ground"). When that happens, the compressor draws abnormal current and the breaker trips to protect the circuit. The report also says: • Voltage at disconnect and breaker was proper → suggests the electrical supply was normal. • Run capacitor tested within manufacturer specs → capacitor likely isn't the issue. • Breaker tripping is a symptom of the failed compressor, not the root cause. •So in plain terms: • X Not primarily an electrical service/wiring failure (based on this report) • X Not a bad capacitor (per testing) • ** Yes an Internal compressor failure Soooo…. Under the contract it states that SHW will cover the compressor. Great! Right? NOT! Why did I get an email from them stating that they will not cover it due to an electrical failure? I have called and tried several times to get someone to explain to me how they are saying it is not the compressor but an electrical failure when they have the report in front of them. They could not explain, let alone read the words correctly on the report…but they came back each time with it’s an electrical failure. Even the technician said, it’s not an electrical failure, it’s the compressor… I am so disappointed and disgusted with this company. How do you sleep at night knowing you are scamming hard working people? Not only do I have a child going off to college in a few weeks, but now I’m left with this huge financial burden of having to replace my HVAC system! I called today to plead my case one last time, but to no avail…. They didn’t offer to help reimburse me the cost of a compressor or give me a discount on a new AC unit…nothing…so I told them to just cancel my policy and they had the nerves to say… there is a $75.00 cancellation fee. I just laughed and said, ok ya got it. Well, I said all of that to say this… beware of scammers hiding under the title of a home warranty company! 0-stars to Select Home Warranty. This company needs a class action lawsuit filed against them!
