November 1 is almost here!
As we recognize Lung Cancer Awareness Month, we're launching Every Mile Matters to celebrate mobile lung screening's impact.
Every mile. Every story. Every conversation. Every screening.
Together, we're bringing awareness, access, and early detection closer to home. ๐
@MoffittNews
๐ค Yesterday we had the opportunity to spend the day with the Pasco County Department of Health, one of our very first community partners and the site of our inaugural clinic in 2024.
This visit was a little different. Our Community Engagement & Education Coordinator, Chloe Byrd, gave a presentation on lung cancer screening and the Mobile Screening Program. The presentation was fantastic, but as always, some of the most meaningful moments came during the Q&A.
The questions were thoughtful, honest, and deeply personal. Lung cancer isn't always an easy topic to discuss, but once the conversation starts, people engage. They ask questions, share experiences, and seek ways to help their loved ones and communities.
Every conversation helps break down stigma, reduce fear, and increase awareness about the importance of early detection. Today, we left inspired by the engagement in the room and the willingness of participants to continue these conversations with their families, friends, and communities.
Because when people talk about lung cancer, they become empowered to do something about it. ๐ค

How do we get people onto the Mobile Lung Screening Unit?
Not with a scanner.
With a conversation.
We don't increase lung cancer screening by simply showing up with a mobile unit. We do it through education, outreach, and countless one-on-one conversations in the community.
We meet people where they are. We help them understand who qualifies for screening, why it matters, and how they can access it. We answer questions, address concerns, and help overcome barriers, especially concerns about cost and insurance coverage.
This week, like most weeks, our Mobile Lung Screening Program is spending four days in the community focused on education and enrolling individuals for upcoming screening events.
The truth is, many of those screenings would never happen without these conversations first.
It truly takes a village.
A huge thank you to our Community Educator and Engagement Specialist, Chloe Byrd, whose hard work behind the scenes is making a real difference. Our commitment to community engagement is helping more people learn about screening and ultimately get screened.
Because education isn't separate from the mission.

A pinch of knowledge. A dash of healthy choices. A lifetime of impact.
That was the spirit of A Taste of Prevention at the Angeline community last Friday, where healthy cooking demonstrations by Moffitt Cancer Center's PEARL Team were paired with engaging conversations about lung cancer prevention and wellness.
Beyond sharing some delicious, healthy treats, we made meaningful connections with community members. We helped eligible individuals sign up for lung cancer screenings, bringing prevention resources directly to where people live and gather.
One of the highlights of the day came from our special guest speaker, Dr. Lary Robinson, renowned thoracic surgeon. When Chef Jules asked him to help by slicing tomatoes, Dr. Robinson delivered the quote of the day:
"Gladly. I might not be a chef, but I sure do know how to cut."
The room erupted in laughter, and the moment perfectly captured the event's energy. Bringing together culinary expertise, medical insight, and community engagement created a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Thank you to Chef Jules, Dr. Robinson, Moffitt's PEARL Team, Metro-Development, Angeline, the Moffitt Mobile Lung Screening Team, and everyone who joined us.
Events like this remind us that some of the most impactful conversations happen around the table.

๐ Team Moffitt in Action All Week Long!
This week was a great example of what makes Moffitt so special. While part of our team was out in the community at the Pasco BOCC Benefit Fairs, educating attendees about the importance of lung cancer screening, discussing eligibility, and helping qualify and pre-register individuals for screening, other team members were representing Moffitt at wellness events on campus.
At the Moffitt Wellness Event, we partnered with our Tobacco Treatment Education Program colleagues to share resources and educate employees about tobacco cessation and the benefits of living tobacco-free. At the Pasco events, we also joined forces with our Moffitt Connect partner to connect PASCO BOCC employees with valuable resources and support services.
What makes these events so impactful is the teamwork behind them. No matter what program we are part of, we come together with one mission: To Contribute to the Prevention and Cure of Cancer!
๐ฅ We divide and conquer, but we succeed together. That's the Moffitt way.
๐ Whether we're on campus or out in the community, Team Moffitt shows up, supports one another, and makes a difference.
๐ There is no stopping Team Moffitt when we work together!

๐Zephyrhills, We're Bringing Lung Cancer Screening to You! ๐
This Wednesday 8/12/26, the Moffitt Mobile Lung Screening Unit will be in Zephyrhills, making it easier than ever for eligible community members to access potentially life-saving lung cancer screening.
Many people put off screening because of time, distance, or a busy schedule. That's why we're bringing screening directly to the community. Early detection can make a difference, and a simple screening could help identify lung cancer before symptoms appear.
If you've been meaning to schedule your lung screening, don't wait any longer.

Whether it's for yourself, a family member, a friend, or a neighbor, help us spread the word. Someone you know may be eligible and not realize it.
Lung cancer doesn't wait. Neither should you.
