Europe Is Paying. Washington Is Negotiating. In 2025, European countries and institutions allocated €28.4 billion in new military support to Ukraine. The United States allocated €400 million. That is 71 times as much. These are new commitments for that year, not everything America has delivered since the invasion. But the shift is extraordinary. Europe is increasingly financing Ukraine's defence. It will pay much of the reconstruction bill and live with the consequences of any failed settlement. Yet the peace process is still presented as an American negotiation. At some point, the people paying for the security must have a greater say in designing it.

The failed Trump regime wants Americans to believe the United States won the war against Iran. The reality is considerably more humiliating. Iranian strikes have devastated American military infrastructure across the Gulf, destroying hundreds of structures and damaging aircraft, radar systems, communications equipment and critical facilities. These bases are not merely places to park soldiers. They are the logistical backbone of American military power, supporting aircraft, supplying warships, storing fuel and ammunition, maintaining equipment and coordinating operations. Destroy that infrastructure and even the world’s most expensive military becomes increasingly difficult to sustain thousands of miles from home. Trump can declare victory from Washington. He cannot declare destroyed infrastructure back into existence.

Even if independent doctors confirmed that Trump had suffered a serious stroke and was no longer capable of performing his presidential duties, I genuinely doubt anyone in Washington would do a damn thing. There would be excuses, denials, carefully worded statements and another standing ovation. America has constitutional safeguards for presidential incapacity. What it appears to lack is anyone with the courage to use them.

Americans are increasingly unhappy with the economy, rising prices and the direction of their country. The man who sold himself as history’s greatest businessman is now presiding over a spectacular collapse in public confidence. At least his casinos only went bankrupt. This time, an entire country is paying the price.
