Hot take: $325M/10 years was indeed way too much to give a pitcher who had never held an MLB-sized baseball. Unless your owner happens to run a private equity business that leverages a network of undisclosed related-party loans to turn his insurance empire into a personal cash machine for his sports assets. Dodgers fans think they got Yamamoto because their front office is smarter than everyone else (they’re not), or because they have more money than everyone else (they don’t). They got him because their owner was able to take risks no other owner could take, because he was breaking the law.
