You people love government so much.
Dave Foley was ordered to pay his ex-wife $17,700 a month in child support. That was five times what he actually earned.
If he set foot in Canada, he would be arrested at the border.
When he asked the judge how he’d feed his daughter from his second marriage, he says the court’s answer was simple: “They can rot in hell.”
In 1997, Foley was starring on NBC’s NewsRadio and making about $1 million a year. That year, he separated from his first wife, Tabatha Southey.
An Ontario judge set his payments at $17,700 a month, or $212,400 a year after taxes, based on his sitcom salary.
Two years later, NBC canceled the show. His income dropped by nearly 80%.
He went back to court to lower the payments. The judge said no. The court ruled he had made $1 million once, so he should keep paying like he still did.
His ex-wife lived in a $2.5 million house on a park in Toronto. Foley rented a small loft in downtown LA.
By 2011, he owed more than $500,000 in back payments. Ontario threatened to pull his passport and issued a warrant for his arrest if he came home.
In the video below, Foley explains the math: “I’m paying about five times my income every month in child support, based on a show that hasn’t been on for 12 years.”
He couldn’t work in Canada again until he landed a new sitcom in 2014 and had his paychecks garnished at the source.
The case for the court: a parent shouldn’t get to slash support just because their career slows down.
The case for Dave: locking a canceled actor into 1990s sitcom money under threat of prison is extortion.
Should child support be tied to what you earn today, or the best year you ever had?

"Bibi Netanyahu, with due respect, wants the United States to fight a war against Iran on Israel's behalf," Pat Buchanan told Sean Hannity in 2018.
"Nobody's talking about fighting a war!" Hannity replied.

As pioneers of the back-to-print movement, we want to welcome Life Magazine back to the world of ink on paper. For the better part of the 20th century, Life provided a home for some of America’s best photographers and essayists to go anywhere and everywhere across the country — at pay scales that were the envy of the entire industry. Lets hope the new Life stays true to its roots.
LIFE returns to print 11.23.26.

In 1976, the U.S. government funded one of the most psychedelic short films ever made.
It was filled with odd images and occult symbols.

Prosperity and peace are imminently attainable for everyone in this country. We need merely to transcend the parties that keep us fighting each other, throw off the corporate and foreign influence on our government, and return to the principles laid out in our Constitution.

Lula vs. Bolsonaro: I was held in solitary confinement for 1,901 days for revealing the truth about the U.S. government's killings and espionage, including against Brazil and its industries. Out of power, Lula fought for my freedom. In power, Lula discussed my persecution with Pope Francis, who decided to meet with my family and offer help. After my release, Lula and I met in Rome to mourn the Holy Father's passing. Lula was kind to my children and asked for nothing in return. In contrast, Jair and Flávio Bolsonaro did nothing and said nothing. Yet without the ability to say no to Washington and Tel Aviv, there can be no domestic policy, only foreign instructions. Those orders are always the same: "Expand our theft of resources and wages, and keep your mouths shut about us murdering children." Sellouts will surrender everything in exchange for a cut, even their own tongues.

The first two words the NYT uses to describe John Anderson’s voice in their obituary of him today are “gravelly” and “warbled.” His voice was exactly the opposite of all that. He sang smoothly, fluidly, in the vein of Lefty Frizzell, his voice rising and falling like gently rolling hills. These people either don’t know what they’re talking about, or they can’t stand to listen to it.

Anyway. RIP John Anderson.

Redgrave is off the chain in this film
after a series of disappointing watches, i felt my interest in film declining. i CRAVED a thematically rich, mentally stimulating movie and the devils (1971) completely scratched that itch. seeing the 4k restoration in theaters was such a cool experience

More Oliver Reed! Check him out dancing up a storm in one of my favourite UK cult movies, Edmond T. Gréville’s BEAT GIRL (1960): a wonderfully lurid trip through the beatnik coffee bars and strip clubs of Soho.
Set to John Barry’s fantastic score (his first), this scene sees Gillian Hills’ teen temptress heading down to a Soho basement and frugging away with Ollie Reed in the checked shirt. Enjoy.
